I want to start selling online, but I do not know what to do. Should I create my own website or open an eBay store?

For me, I will use ebay to find the stuff I want and hopefully can find it at cheaper price.

Ebay is a good choice. But I have not made any purchase yet. My friends used to say that ebay offers cheaper price when compared to others. I too go for that opinion.

For starters, it will be a lot easier to start selling in eBay first. I do feel that starting and creating a website is a lot harder because of the following reasons: 1) Higher start-up cost as compared to an eBay store (in terms of getting your own domain, hosting, website design, etc) 2) Traffic (It's hard to direct people to your own shopping website, especially if you start from scratch. For eBay, the traffic is much more higher, and with good title, and investing in keywords, more people are likely to find your items) 3) More effort in creating of own website. (Have to think of design, how you are going to accept payment and such) Hope this helps you in your decision making.

I was thinking about the same thing. I was wondering which would be better. What about the Ebay store? What id the differnce? Which do you make more money?

I have an eBay store and have done well with it. It all depends on what you want to sell. I would do some research on what the items sell for n eBay. If you can make a profit, go for it. But you may want to start just with individual auctions to test the waters before adding the expense of a store. The visibility of items in a store is low anyway compared to auctions. I saw a comment about using a blog to send traffic to your store. Excellent idea which I plan to implement soon.

Why not trying to sell your items in an ebay store at first? Find your niche there, deciding which products seem to sell well for you. Then you have some place to start while you work on an independent online store. I think you can link to your independent store (when you get one running) from your ebay account. That way you won't lose any customers when and if you decide to switch to soley using your own store without ebay.

Since you are just starting out selling I think I would open a Ebay store. I do not know how much stuff you are wanting to sale so if you do not have alot to sale then Ebay would be the way I would go at first.

In reality you should have both. Today you are almost a nobody if you don't have a blog for your business. I sell on ebay and I use my blogs to direct more traffic to my ebay pages. You use your blog to talk about the products you have for sale on ebay, giving descriptions on products. You can also go to other people's blogs, that are related to the products your will be selling and leave comments that add value to their post. You may get the attention of the site owner and their readers.

If this is still your first try, or you have only a limited products, then i suggest you just use ebay. Creating your own web, may take time as well as the expenses. But if you really wish to have this long business of yours, then be brave to risk for it.
