Do you think a new blog can generate natural traffic from search engine without any promotion? Most bloggers submit their blogs to the blog directories, and promote the blogs in social networking sites. It does take time and effort to generate traffic for a new blog. Even then, without any knowledge of SEO, the new blog will not attract traffic from search engine. Do you think the reverse is true, that a new blog can generate natural traffic by making good use of SEO, and without any promotion on the part of a blogger? If it is possible, how long do you think the new blog can attract a steady stream of at least 100 visitors per day?

that was my problem before... i still dont even understand what a SEO really is all about... it was like months already and i still have 200 visitors. i wanted to earn from blogging and there is a requirement in ranking, so it was really my problem. i had this what i called blogging and online income journey, along that way, aside from earning, i found that you need to have good posts, you need to follow other people's blog, so they will follow yours too. and your blog posts should really really be good, and updated all the time so people will keep on coming back to your site. but there is also a way to generate visitors to it, for free. now my blog have more than 14,000 visitors, and i had made my alexa rank from 25 million now down to 8 million in less than 2 months, not bad... this blog i am talking about is my sort of journal blog (well not daily journal).

Hi Jayrene, congratulations on increasing your blog ranking. You have put in a lot of hard work, and learn a lot. I'm still in the learning stage, and experimenting stage too. Used to spend a lot of time visiting other blogs and comment on them, and get some traffic in return. For my second blog, I want to do without all the promotions. I just treat it as a form of experiment, see if the blog can attract natural traffic with good usage of SEO. Writing is not a problem, I can write a 400 words article within half an hour. It's the promoting of blog that I find very tiring. What is the free way to generate visitors?

Hi, i have recently started a blog myself and I can definitely say its possible, but there is still a bit you work that you have to do for this to happen. These two sites are very handy for doing this, this one is a list of blog directories that you can submit your blog to and hopefully send more web surfers in the direction of your blog http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/part-2.htm This one automatically sends your blogs URL out to a number of directories and databases which might be worth doing http://pingomatic.com/ If you have any friends with blogs / websites aswell, it helps greatly if you make links to each others sites on your homepages. Hope this helps, and happy traffic hunting :)

Hi Joneser, thanks for sharing the two sites. This "bit of work" sure beats joining those social networking site. The time saved can be used to write more articles for the blog instead. How is the traffic flow to your blog so far? I'm not expecting anything more than 10 in the initial stage. I guess 6 months is a reasonably long duration to gauge the success of the blog.

Hi, ive gotten just under 300 blog views in the course of a week which i think is pretty good for a brand new blog, one thing to do is put a link to your blog in the signatures you use on forums, this should get you and extra couple of people. Here is mine if you want to compare it to your own http://joneser-f1now.blogspot.com/

I think with a lot of hard work, and time it is possible. However, using SEO and other methods, you would be far more successful.

Hi Starfish, starting a blog is hard work, but I find that promotion of the blog is even tougher. Agree that SEO is the key to attract natural traffic. Plus a constant updating. Heard that updating 3 times a day for next 3 months is the way to make the blog stands out. Compare to social networking of chatting and visiting other blogs, I rather take the time to update more frequently.

I doubt it would be easy, as there are more site coming up, how are you able to ensure your site would be good with SEO and rank high among other sites.

Hi iwrite, obviously it is not easy. Even with a lot of promotion, it is not easy to attract traffic. I started a personal blog two months ago. Even after a lot of promotion, the highest number of viewers is 100 on a particular days. My personal blog attracts very little natural traffic due to the fact that it is personal in nature. Most of the traffic I suspect comes from the social networking sites.

There are such blogs which attract visitors naturally, without any promotion. Those blogs are enriched with very high quality content and a good keyword density. Then what's the doubt in it's traffic? In my opinion, six months are enough to get an average of 100 visitors per day, but the blog must be updated with more and more rich contented posts. I recently read about this from an online article, where a 16 year old guy explains the same topic.

Hi Mohamed, agree with your comment. Six months is reasonable time to attract a constant stream of viewers. Many bloggers make the mistake of quitting after three months. Keyword density is a bit of problem. Can't imagine using the same keyword so many times in an article, and using the same keyword in 180 articles. Do you think update 3 times a day, with 200 words per day or update once a day with a 600 words article is better?

I don't think its possible unless you choose very good keyword. I think you will be able to get traffic, but very limited since your not promoting it. You don't money to promote a website. You could use forums or a site like this to promote your blog. All it takes is some hard work and your good to go. Give it a try.

Hi Super2cool, agree that it is difficult. Even with promotion, it is difficult to increase traffic, without promotion, it is tougher. Agree that good keyword is the key to the survival of the blog, plus the constant updating. There are some who recommend updating 3 times a day for continuous 3 months to get a new blog established. That is very tough work. If updating 3 times a day, and promoting the blog everywhere, it will be an impossible task, sounds very much like full time employment.

Perhaps if there were enough of the right kinds of keywords and the blog was devoted to a subject that was particularly popular.

Hi Canellita, agree that SEO is the key to attract traffic. And a niche area is better than a broad spectrum of topics. However writing for a blog in niche area is hard, since all the articles must be specific to that particular topic. Plus the keywords used are limited, hard to use the same words over and over in thousand different ways.

I think the topic would have to be broad enough, such as travel, as opposed to specific travel destinations or experiences related to one aspect of travel such as traveling with children or in Europe.
