I watched this last night and I am not always into movies with subtitles, but I got into because the story line was great. I love watching movies for various of reasons and this one really hit the spot for my film taste of following cinematic characteristics. Basically the synopsis is this: It's about the Stasi who basically watches anyone who even seems out of line with the GDR in Germany when Socialism ruled the country. And one stasi member focuses on a playwright and his girlfriend. His girlfriend is somehow ties into the whole polictical mess as a lover. And the playwright already lost a friend to politics when the friend became blacklisted. There is so much one could say about this film becuase it not only covers the politics of the 80's in Germany and the lives of other people who are being watched due to this. The director of the film did a wonderful job in portraying the loneliness of these people in the masses. I basically found it to be a play within a play because the stasi member was playing with the lives of the people he was watching (the playwright and his girlfriend) by helping them out a bit. Here is a link to a review on the movie. And I watched it on Starz cinema last night so it will be on again I am sure. If you like movies with a little of everything here you go: http://entertainment.ie/movie_reviews/The-Lives-of-Others/4937.htm Have you seen this movie?
