How many people have heard anything of the story of Cabin 28, in Keddie, California.. the story from which the strangers is supposedly loosely based?

I watched this movie, but I had never heard of the case that it really came from. Did that really happen like it show on the movie or what? Oh and another thing are these people still out there?

I hadn't heard about that case. Instead, I've read that The Strangers is based on other things, like something that happened when the director was a child and the Manson murders. Whatever it's based on, it's still a creepy movie. I wonder if the sequel will live up to the same standards.
