Newer Anime

Does anyone here think that the new anime shows coming out are starting to get repetitive? It seems to me that the same topics and actions come up over and over, along with the same character personalities. I know that SOME characters from many Animes could be the same, but I seem to be seeing alot of the same tendencies. Which brings me to my next point. Most of these characters are done by the same people. Does this mean that those people can't come up with new character ideas? Or do the old ones just take over any new ones that they try and come up with. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on this are. It makes me not want to watch anime or read manga as much anymore.

Yes, I definately think a lot of the newer series are the same. Especially the action/battle oriented ones. They seem to follow a basic structure of some everyday, misfit kid getting thrown into a secret fantasy world and facing battles and having to collect something or other, and maybe a love story on the side.

Yeah, usually. I dunno why people do that sort of thing. It seems so... old. Bleh. We need more than just new characters. We need new stories, too. Thanks for the reply.

I dont know but I agree that Anime's are getting similar.I also find some characters which are the same but in different mangga's.I also believe that they were made by the same people, and some also are copied by other people's work.Either of the both,I dont care,I also find anime's boring nowadays.

Yes, alot are copied, and alot are also built around general popular characters. This is sorta depressing, as I would much rather prefer completely original characters. This is because originality is alot better than just a standard design in my opinion.

I think some of your point is right but not all the anime is like that, for starters you should know that anime is not specifically MUST be drawn or create by a mangaka, they could born from the production house, with no famous mangaka included, what you should looking when watching anime is the "creator" they always put the name of creator in the op credits, my most favorite creator/concept is BONES, they have so many good anime already and most of them done by many different illustrator and production house. just a little advice when you got tired of watching manga or anime, don't just watch the major ones, try to watch a minor, they may not have a good promotion or solid concept but at the very least they have the creativity you want, take one example Eureka 7, when this anime first airing none of the fansubber and anime watcher know it, I stumbled upon this anime is pure out of curiosity, and damn they are GOOD, that's when I try to find the creator name, and I found BONES on the OP title, from that time I'm always watch at least 3 new eps of new anime, to try to find the good one like that. what I watch for this season : - basquash - K-ON - Saki (only if your understand mahjong)

Niche characters supposedly sells, the most being the tsundere. Many creators follow the trends especially in character creations and plot setting. It is because this is what the audience wants. It is the audience who dictate which shows should be watched and which characters to be liked. And in order for creators to survive, they must pander to the consumers, and thus the beginning of creative stagnancy in anime and manga. The audience usually have a hostile reaction to new ideas and experimentation because they were used to ideas that they liked. I wouldn't be surprised that today's anime fans only like moe show or shounen, and only a handful like 'art' That's pretty much the equation nowadays. In order for anime to be fresh again, the creators must not pander to the wants of the audience. They must come up with something original in order to stand out, to be recognized and to begin a trend. Sometimes I'd like to believe Hideaki Anno when he said that there was no new anime since Evangelion. There wasn't any anime after it that contained something 'new'.

Yeah. But I think that anyone who watches Anime would be up for something new and different. I would hope so, at least. I feel bad sometimes because there are so many closed minds around.. If people would just open up just a little to new things, I think alot could be better.(In more areas that just Anime). But yeah. The people like certain characters(Girls liking the dark emos(Usually) which I despise) Personally, I like creative energetic characters(Not annoying(Naruto=Annoying)) Thanks for the comment.

Generally speaking, you're probably right. It's just easier to recreate the same old things in a slightly different order for quick money, in the anime business nowadays. It's why generally I watch anime for unique stories. If it doesn't catch me, if there's not some little quirk that makes it stick out from all the rest...well I won't bother with it. I don't have as much access to manga nowadays, so I'm not sure how the trend corresponds or anything.

Yeah, easier... But easy isn't always best or the most fun. I would much rather take some extra time to create a completely original character than to take a base of another character that I've alread created. Unless of course that character is just that awesome. But, thats what sequels and extra series are for. Exploiting popular characters.

Well, Anime isn't any different in repetition of character types and themes than western cartoons. Family Guy and Simpsons pretty much share the same theme of a screwed up goofball father, a steadyhand if not sometimes eccentric wife, a try hard daughter and an outcast son. Mind you the same stereotyping occurs in almost all television genre. With regards to Anime, I have found that when they are based on similar legends, the characters tend to be very similar to each other, especially in the case when the hero/heroine is at school.

Actually I have the same thought. Nowadays it's kinda boring and repetitive but sometimes there will be a very good one. It's like books and movies where authors with new and original ideas will come up with a best-selling novel or a box-office movie. I came across SKip Beat and I am addicted to it now...^^

Lol, I've never heard of that. And yes, some of the new ones are good... But alot of them aren't. I guess it just depends on your taste in manga/anime and the setting/characters. Thanks for the reply.

"It seems to me that the same topics and actions come up over and over...", this is exactly what I think! I've seen quite a lot of animes for nearly 8 or 9 years, and the passion once exited has long since passed away. Now at times I still choose animes to relax but I really have not found anyone so creative so outstanding that can make me feel different. The topics always have somewhere in common,adventurous,romantic,detective...... It's really hard to appreciate a new anime from the bottom of my heart now.
