Celebrating 42 Years Together

My wife and I recently celebrated our 42nd anniversary. We have done some very special things to celebrate special anniversaries in the past, cruises twice, a weekend in New York City to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, to mention a few. Forty two is not a number we usually associate with a special anniversary, but it seemed special to me, but I had trouble thinking of the appropriate gift. I finally decided on creating a card to tell her how much I appreciate some trait or characteristic of her, one each day for six weeks. I used the Print Artist software on my computer, and created the card I wanted, and then only changed the wording on each day’s card. I did not tell her of my plan, but on the fifth day of receiving a card, she quietly asked, “How long do you plan to keep this up?” I told her “42 days.” She did not say anything in reply. On about the tenth day, she said, “You know, I am really looking forward to going to the mailbox each day.” I just smiled. We are nearing the end of the experiment; I will complete it early next week. But I think this gift will be remembered as long as some of the more exotic measures we have used in our previous celebrations. What do you think? (first posted at qassia)

It sounds all right. Me, I am into box of chocolates and my favorite Dvd and I doubt that with my husband's stroke, we will reach 42. I do not like cards that much, but for me a Cuisinart would make me very happy or a set or Rachel Ray cookwear, and a grill for the stove. I am really into cooking.

I always make sure my gal has all the things she want for the kitchen, cause while she is into cookin', I am into eatin'!

That is absolutely wonderful! The true test will be if you can complete this. Many romantic ideas loose their momentum, but it sounds like you are almost there! Anything that requires continued faithfulness and commitment while being very personal in expressing your feelings is always greatly appreciated!!

That is an absolutely amazing gift! I think any woman would be honored to recieve something so thoughtful. Most people may not do anything big for their 42nd anniversay. However, every anniversary is a good one to celebrate! If you wait for the next 'big' one, you may miss your opportunity. Letting your spouse know how special they are every year on your anniversary is a great idea. (Making sure they know everyday is also important!) If my grandparents had waited for the next 'big' anniversary, they wouldnt have made it. My Grandmother passded away just after their 59th. I think it is wonderful that you are taking this opportunity. This year will only be my 2nd anniversary. But I plan to make it special - because it is!

Thanks for your enthusiastic support. And congratulations on your plan to "do it up right" for the second anniversary!
