Have you chosen to go back to college as an adult learner?

After high school, a million years ago, I took 1 year off and then attended a local private college for a year. Life happened, and I was unable to continue at that college, therefore not receiving my degree then. 12 years later, and after having my 4 children, I decided that getting my associates was something I personally wanted to accomplish. And I went back, graduated with my associates and thought that was great. Now it has been 6 more years, the economy has gotten worse, and I am now headed back this fall to work on the bachelors. Has anyone else made the decision to go back to college, either for pure economic reasons or just to accomplish something of your own?

I have just enrolled in college online! I am 32 year old and I am a stay at home mother and I thought that would be a good way to get a degree plus be able to stay at home with my kids at the same time. Its a 2 year program which I got financial aid to help pay for some of it. I know I will have to pay it back but it help out so much right now and I will be able to pay it back once I get out of school. I get an overage check every 3 months which helps with catching bills and such up. So... I think it is a wonderful Ideal for adults like us to do. My major is in computer science and I plan on going beyond just the 2 year program I have the next 6 years planned out so... I wish you the best of luck and I think it was a very good choice. Happy Mylotting!

I agree with you about the financial aid. I had to take out loans, but in the end, it is worth it. Good luck to you, as well. Sometimes I think going back after you've been away for so long makes you a better learner...somehow you appreciate it more and what it offers you.

I agree with learning better when we are older I think it is that fact that we now know how important education is. I stress it to my kids everyday well my 8 year old I do and my 2 year old is off to a great start already has been saying her ABC's for a while now I work with her alot. Education is what is going to save our future so I am all for it. Thanks and Happy mylotting.

I went back to college at the age of 46. I had just been medically retired from work, and I needed to prove to myself that my useful life was not over, and that although my body had let me down, my mind was still up to the task ahead. It was the best thing I ever did. I made many new friends and really enjoyed the study for my BA in English and History. I graduated with a First, and went on to do an MA in Anglo American Literary Relations. I loved the learning process, and the feeling of discovering new things, even in my 40's and 50's. I am still unable to work, but my studying has expanded my mind and helped me to read and write more effectively. I'm taking a break from my studies for a while, but I haven't ruled out the possibility of studying for a PhD.
