Why does our flag appear like that? The two equal horizontal bands, the sun and the triangle is inspired by the Cuban revolutionary flag. The Cubans, just like us, were colonized and fought for independence from Spain. The colors and the stars were taken from the US flag. That's what I learned in my readings before. As for what the elements of the flag represents, other responders have spilled it out: the white colored triangle is for equality; the upper dark blue (which became royal blue) is for peace, truth and justice; while the red color is for patriotism and valor. The sun stood for the progress and civilization, the rays for the first eight provinces that raised arms against Spain and the three stars for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

I think you have to argue and ask our ancestors why it looks like that. There should be no comparison with that matter. That is, one thing is for sure, each color and design has significant history, and since we came from yesterday we should respect and honor whatever it may be.

I forgot the meaning of the colors in our flag. I'm ashamed of myself for forgetting. I think Blue is for bravery and Red is for the Paghihimagsik. Sorry I can't remember what I learned in school. It's been so long I think if ever I could join the Are you smarter than a 5th graded I drop out immediately.
