I think the reason it was leaning was on history channel a while back... If my memory serves me it is leaning because it does not have a foundation underneath it and so part of it started to sink and with the weight of the stone used to build it it is going to keep leaning over until it eventually falls over

La Torre di Pisa, or as we all know it as The Leaning Tower of Pisa, is the freestanding bell tower of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa. The tower is the third oldest structure still standing in the Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) in Pisa. Origanally the tower was to stand straight in a vertical manner, however, after construction started in 1173, due to poor foundation and loose substrate the base shifted directions. More recently, in 1964 the government in Italy asked for assistance in preventing the tower from toppling over. The difficult task is when it was insisted that the structure remain at the angle it was at. This was to ensure that the city would not lose the tourism that comes with having such an outstanding structure. I hope some of that answers your questions regarding the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

I have actually been there. It is pretty disturbing to see. It looks so strange because all of the other buildings are so straight and it leans to the side so much! Im not sure if it is one of the 7 wonders of the world or not, but it is definitely cool to see. If you ever get the chance to go, I reccommend it! At one time, it was true that it was shifting and so it was leaning a little bit more each year. That is no longer the case. They have added foundation and secured it so that it will stay like it is now. They didnt want it to fall over, so they made sure it would stay just like it is!
