I took a photo yesterday I was quite proud of and was wondering what others thought. It won't hurt my feelings if you don't like it so tell me what you think and if you have any way for me to improve the shot. We have SO many daffodils around my house it's an AMAZING sight. And a link for those who don't wish to take the long journey from their email. http://ohshot.com/depot/6e4a60.jpg

It is a wonderful shot of the daffodil. Did you take more than just one photograph? I usually take several since I do not know the exact effect until I get it loaded on the computer! I would also liketo see a shot from a little more below the flower. I think it would have a nice effect as well.

I did take more pictures - I'll have to link it later because they are still in my camera. I'll come back some time tomorrow and throw a link your way.

Here are some of the others I took. None of them were quite like the one I posted though. http://ohshot.com/depot/16e59b.jpg http://ohshot.com/depot/17ed50.jpg

i love the blur here... but i think that it could have been better if you focus stigma. i think that it could have a great effect. well that's what i think... but over all i think that it's good, you know the lighting and the angle. don't for get keep sharing your photos, i love to watch them.

This is definitely a better shot! The lighting is stronger and the focus is clearer, so the shadowing and lines of the flower stand out much more. Having the petals behind the central part of the flower slightly out of focus also highlights the central part of the flower. (Like I've suggested in my comments below)

for me i think that this picture is better... you have it in a different angle... it's sharper too... and you still have that blur background amazing! nice work girl!

Very nice photo! Close-up photography is not an easy thing to do at all as the focus and light can be a challenge. If I was to make any suggestions to improve on this one, I'd probably try to improve the focus a little more and would also aim for more light because this will showcase the shadowing and lines of the central part of the daffodil more effectively. Including the entire daffodil in the shot may have been of benefit too as you could have the outer petals slightly out of focus which would then have drawn the eye into the central part of the flower.

I take so many different pictures of the same thing all the time and I think this one I was playing with manual focus. I just got my Rebel back in January so I'm still having an issue with manual focus but I'm working at it. And the only reason I started was because my auto focus was having issues so close and in dark light. Thanks for checking out my photo and giving me some suggestions.

Thanks, and you are right - wind makes it difficult.

I think it is an excellent shot. I really like how it stands out so much against the dark background. It really looks like it is popping out at you. The only thing that makes it somewhat difficult to look at is that it was hard to find the focus point. I wasnt sure where in the picture I should be looking. I didnt know where you were trying to draw attention. Keep rocking the photographs!

Thanks! You're right, the focus point is a little off, I'm practicing with manual focus and don't remember if this was one of those or not. If not, it was probably too close for my auto focus to handle. :P Either way, I have plenty to try again with. :) Thanks again!

Manual focus definitely takes some practice. But in the end it can really help you get exactly what you want from a picture! Good luck figuring it all out!

This is a great shot... It shows that you have been taking alot of pictures.. Do you find that you have an eye for this type of photographs? I have a few posted online, just my preferred ones are of scenic, animals, and odd objects. I have taken some of friends, family, children... I feel these are the tough ones. Its tough to get them to act natural, cause they see you there, and want to pose. You can see what I mean. http://brattyspace.com/community/jiffythorn Keep up the good work, and you might think about entering some contests, great way to earn, also there are a few stock photo sites you can post photo's for sale online.

It is a great picture. I think maybe it would be better with a little more focus in the middle, but that"s just my opinion. As a suggestion, is there any way you could keep a notebook and write down the settings as you take each one? That way you can see exactly what works and what doesn't, so you know how to correct it next time.

Very pretty! And thanks for enclosing the link; made it so much easier to view the photo. Were you deliberately going for something soft or is it the focus?

At first, it was just me practicing with manual focus - but after looking at it about a million times - I decided I like it soft. :D

Thats a nice one. Would you share the settings which you took that on? Did you set it in Macro mode? The region just above the pistils appear blur. I don't know how you got it that way. Anyway thats a nice shoot. Happy shutter bugging.

Thanks. I can't remember what setting I had it on but I'm pretty sure it was probably in macro mode on my Canon Rebel XS. I may have been practicing with manual focus on this one but I don't know for sure. I take a lot of pictures in a day and load them at the end of the day so when I start playing with things the settings that aren't included in the properties tend to get lost. It was at f/5.6, ISO-200, and 1/320 sec with no flash.
