In general, I don't really trust those antivirus program which can be downloaded free. I usually buy the antivirus software to keep my computer safe from virus (as I went online quite often). I had used before these antivirus softwares: McAfee, Trend Micro, and Norton. Currently, for this laptop I'm using, I am using Norton Symantec antivirus software.

On my desktop I have Norton that came with my desktop. On my laptop I downloaded AVG on it. I do not know which one is the best. My son searched to find one online that was a good one and that was free. He said the best one he found online that was free was AVG.

From many computer forums I'm involved with, many suggest Avast, even after trying other anti-virus programs. Go to Snapfiles freeware, then read the numerous revies for Avast and you can see why it's popular...

The best antivirus program would be the one which is not a freeware. There are numerous free antivirus software available to download. It is true that they provide excellent security for your computer but the ones you buy are much better than these. The price is not very high and these software offer additional features also. Among the free antivirus softwares Avira and Comodo are very good ones. They run very smoothly on your computer and doesnt use much disk space, nor use much of the computer resources. The free antivirus programs , once installed, keep themselves updated with new antivirus definition, patches etc. When you install the software, it will keep checking for updates, and download and install the updates whenever they are available. It is recommended to use paid antivirus programs but if you decide to use a free one, get a good one like Avira, Comodo. There are many others but not all provide good protection to your PC

We can not say any anti virus software as the best one and no ant virus software will detect and disinfect all of the virus and internet threats available. We may need to use more than one software to get rid of some virus, one by one. But some of the anti virus software like McAfee, will eat up all the CPU while it is getting updated or when the scan is running. We can not do anything when the above process in running which will make us very much tensed. Choose software according to your RAM and it is advisable to scan with at least two software(of course after removing the previous software and installing the new one)to find the threats available. Still if you need the best as you say, most of the users will recommend AVG,Avest,Kasperskey and some will favor to Norton(Symantec)

I'm using AVG all the while and it works great. You can go to download.com to download the AVG anti virus, it is free of charge and download.com is one of the popular download website, you no need to worry about that.

my suggestion is don't go for free anti virus they are not 100% safe for ur computer. just go for purchased one that will protect ur computer 100% safe and they will give support if u have anything wrong with that. If u r indian just go for Kaspersky 2009 it's cost just 500/- Rs for 3 user with 1 year validity if u pay more u may get some other antivirus software according 2009 ratings 1 bit diffender Internet Security cost 800/-Rs 2 Kaspersky Internet security cost 500/- Rs (3 users) 3 Mcafee cost 1000/- Rs (single user) 4 Norton Cost 1100/- Rs (single user) 5 quickheal cost 1000/- Rs (single user) just go for purchased one don't go for free

AVG is the most popular anti virus. Avast has a lot of false positives. Kaspersky seems to be the most powerful antivirus. There was not one virus that got past it. Too bad I can't say the same things about AVG and Avast. I forgot one antivirus.. Norton. Norton is just as good as Kaspersky but it hogs your memory.

Everytime I get an antivirus, IT has viruses, so I just don't have one. I just stay on safe websites, and if my computer slows down I reset it to factory settings which only takes one hour.
