i want to buy a new camera but im not sure which one. so far i haven't got any in mind. except for the requirements i would need. i want it to be water resistant/water proof. i want it to be at least 5 mega pixels and i need it to be not so big. so far i have noticed a lot of people using those big SLR camera's and i personally don't like how big they are and people seem to love em. so any suggestions?

I usually purchase cannon cameras as they use glass for thier lenses. Alot of other companies only use plastic and this produces a lower quality picture. They are also quite inexpensive and durable. Some cannon models will even have the option of adding attatchments like different lenses and filters. You should try doing some research online and compare different models before you go shopping. This will give you a good idea as to what you are looking for.

You can buy any point and shoot camera that are pocketable size. Any budgets? Like sony w series (w220 - perfect for beginners, complete features- can handle low light situations, smile shutter, picture effects like fish eye lens, adding decor, landscapes, etc. even at night shots - my mom is using this and she loved it) or canon ixus series (not complete features but it can last for a lifetime... some ixus model is hard to use..so need practice and experimental) or nikon coolpix (haven't tried but many beginners give good points about this). If you plan to use underwater, I suggest you buy a waterproof casing rather than buying a waterproof camera because it won't last long. My relative who recently bought an olympus waterproof camera but it broke from underwater use. the water leaked inside the camera. can't replace it anymore even under warranty. Too bad. I guess the trends now is 12mp above.. most cameras that are 7mp below are already phased out. Hope it helps...=)

thanks for the response. i don't really want a waterproof casing cause im afraid that if i don't put it on properly i might ruin the camera. i don't really have a budget but the most I'd pay for a camera is Rm3000 that's in Malaysian ringgits as I've just moved to Malaysia. but I'd say I'd spent 500pounds if that helps any further. i know that people like 12 mega pixels but those are sort of pricey aren't they? and as long as i can snap at least with 5 mega pixels im quite happy. i mean the more the better but I'll take what i can get with my criteria.

Not really pricey... Get at least 7mp so that when you plan to print the pictures, it is more clearer and sharper images. You don't have to worry if something goes wrong. FOr me, I usually get the 12mp now, so i will not upgrade anymore next time... It is very pricey and sometimes in the future, there are things you won't need it anymore such as the software compatible since the OS keep upgrading...Happy Hunting.

Olympus made weather resistant and shockproof models, as do Pentax and at least one of the Canon Powershots is weatherproofed. Most cameras in this rasnge start out at 7 megapixels, but avoid compacts above 12 megapixels or you will have poor photos under low-light conditions.

i like the Olympus models the things and equipments they have are nice but the designs aren't that appealing i wish they had cannon designs.

try Sony Handy cam. i am using it 10.3 mega pixel and its smaller than the mobile. i am using it and the picture quality is far better than amazing. i will also give you the model number if you want.
