Is it still a day to honor mothers or do you think it is celebrated just to promote consumerism? Has it become too commercialized?[

It's great to have an official day wherein we can honor our mother and show them our appreciation. It's up to us if we want to coomercialized it by patronizing products devoted to this day.

The fact she remains in your heart is celebration enough.

No, Mother's day isn't just to promote consumerism. I would be happy if my daughter just sent me an email wishing me a Happy Mother's Day! I know I won't even receive that from her. It hurts like crazy to know that my daughter can't even do something for free to wish me a Happy Mother's Day!! I am going to pick a few flowers to put on my Mom's memorial spot. She passed away in 2000 and I would give anything to have her here to celebrate the day with. I usually would make her a gift (I make artist teddy bears) and get her a card and then cook her an extra special meal. My Mom wasn't just a Mom, she was also my best friend!

My Mom was also my best friend. I still yearn for her wisdom and I just wish that I got to tell her I love her one more time before she had an accident which took her life.

Personally Mother's Day is to honour your mother and everything she has done for you, for being there when needed her unconditional love through whatever the problems are...for me it isn't commercialised if it is then it is through the media and shops...littleowl

I don't think Mother's Day has become as commercialized as some of the other holidays. I think it's a great day to celebrate mom, even though she really should be celebrated EVERY DAY with everything moms do. As far as gifts go for Mother's Day , I think there is a possibility of going over board. I think flowers are a beautiful idea. Jewelry just seems pricey to me. And cake, I don't understand, lol. I was in the grocery store today and saw someone buying a "Happy Mother's Day" cake. I thought cake was for birthdays and graduations and weddings - those types of celebrations. lol I live about 2 hours away from my parents. So on Mother's Day I always be sure to send a card so my mom knows I'm thinking of her and also call her. I think it's those types of things that mean the most to mom on Mother's Day. I don't know, I guess I'm not a mom yet - so maybe my opinion will be different from a Mom's opinion.

Yes, Mother's day is for to show our appreciation for all the things our mothers have done for us. With the gifts, I think if it is not the price but the effort done by the child/ren.

I don't think so. Though it depends on the person if they would like to lavish their moms with gifts.
