How important is animal life to you?

How do you feel about this? Doesan animal's interest in living have any weight in our deciding how we treat said animal? How is an animal's interest in continued existence qualitaively any answer provides a good starting point.

To me, an animal's life has the same value as a human life. What makes our lives worth more than theirs? Is it because we understand things they don't? If that's why some people think that a human life is worth more than an animal's life, then I think that's wrong. It's just like saying, "I'm better then you are because I'm smarter then you.", and that's arrogant.
