Hi My friend and I had swimming lessons one summer when we were about 10 years old. We only learned the basics then but we love the water and so we just kept on practicing until we got the hang of it. We are no athletes but at least we know how to swim I am lucky that I live in the city that has a beach within a ten minute drive. I like going to the beach but I prefer to swim in a pool though. Have a nice day!

My cousin and I almost drowned while on a vacation when we were little. I must have been traumatized by this incident. I did have swimming classes after that to overcome the fear of swimming, but I'm not sure if I know how to swim. I could float and wade in the water, but that's it. Between the pool and an ocean, I prefer the ocean because it relaxes and recharges me PLUS I get a better tan when I'm at the ocean. Don't worry this fear that I have has not hindered me from enjoying water activities like Skimboarding, Snorkeling, and Paraw Sailing.

I figured that I'm really a water person. I love the ocean. I love the beach. I love rivers. I gotta do something with my fear. Yes, I may not be able to swim or I choose not to swim, but I found a better way with it :D

Yes I do. As a teen I used to be a very good swimmer. I learned how to swim when I was around 7 years old. When we went on vacations, I did not care where we were going as long as there was a pool to swim in. I still love swimming. But, most pools here are over full. Take care, have a nice day!

When I was about 8 years old, a boy held me under the water at the school swimming lesson until I lost consciousness. That made me terrified of water, and I didn't learn to swim until I was 38, encouraged by my second husband. I went to adults only lessons, and within 3 weeks I could swim 25 metres! I wish I hadn't wasted all those years, because I love swimming. I'd rather swim in a pool, as my fear of the water is still with me, and I feel more in control in a pool. We live in Spain, and thecommunal pool is only a few yards from our home, so I can swim as much as I like to make up for lost time!

I learned how to swim at a very young age, so I'm familiar with it. Personally, I prefer a pool, because the ocean can take you under and you could drown if you're not careful...

i learned how to swim when i was 15 haha, my father taught me, we were at a hotel with my family, since we were moving in to a new town, which is very hot, and most of the houses have a swimming pool in them, thus our new house does, but no scary story's, just good memories, my father left this world, and left me with nothing but A LOT of good stories and memories :)

I learned how to swim at a really early age. My father still has a summer house right on the lake, so i learned how to swim early in life so Iwouldbe able to enjoy the water, and be safe.

hello punlonnjack! yes i know how to swim. i think i've learned how to swim probably when i was in gradeschool. maybe 9 or 10 or even earlier. i can't be sure because i live beside a lake so its easy for kids like me then to learn how to swim. i remember when i was a kid, we would go swimming in the lake, sometimes with my mother, and we don't only have fun but we also swim to get clams which we cook and eat. nowadays, i don't like swimming in the lake anymore because its dirty and the water doesn't look too good. a lot of people dumps their trash in the lake and even a lot of people use the lake as their toilet. ~.~ its a wonder how fishermen still are able to catch a lot of fish from there. i learned proper swimming when i was in college because it was a requirement for our course. we were taught swimming strokes in swimming pools and took swimming tests in pools too. that was the first time for me to wear a swimsuit. ^^;; i was never required to wear a swimsuit when swimming in the lake. LOL but in the swimming pools, swimmers are required to wear one. i get to swim in beaches too. but i prefer to take a dip in swimming pools where i can see all sides and i can see the bottom and there are no big waves. in oceans and seas its different. its scary if you think of its seemingly endless horizon. and there was one time i almost drowned. at least that's what i think. me and my friends were swimming and playing and there were big waves. there came a really big one and i got carried by it and water came in under my nose. good thing i was swept up in a shallow area. i recovered easily. that's the reason why i'm afraid now of waves. ^^
