How Many Hours A Week Play Time?

Playtime Wishes - She would play 24x7x365 if she could.
Even when she is so tired that she is falling asleep, she is up for playing.

I had a friend stop in from out of town. He played and played with my dog and she loves him dearly for it. When we dropped him at local transit for his departure, my little dog stood on her hind legs with her paws on the inside of the driver’s side car door, peering out the window at him and started crying. This broke my heart. I play with my dog but not every waking moment of every day. No where near how much he was playing with her when he was visiting. When he came to visit again, I told him to not play with my dog every waking moment while he was here and told him why. I explained what happened and how our playing time works. I play with my dog everyday but I have noticed that it only takes a few minutes a couple times a day minimum to have her content. Sometimes we will play with her toys for fifteen minutes a shot, at least once a day, in addition to just a few tosses, maybe a tug or two here and there. When we go to the dog parks we play also. Always chasing something, be it a stick or fetching her fetch toy. That is usually daily, pending weather as she doesn’t like the grass if it is wet. All in all, in a week, I would say that we play at least two and a half hours. That isn’t including her three walks a day, brushes that she gets twice a day, religiously and all the belly rubs after her meals, in the morning before she gets out of bed and at night while she goes to sleep. My dog would like to play more and would but I have other things that need to be done. If I didn’t, I would be playing with my dog. It’s fun and she loves it. I get satisfaction out of watching her play. I want to play with her as much as I can while she still wants to and is young enough to move like that. I think she will remain playful with age but there may come a time in her life where she can’t move as easily and therefore won’t be as willing to play. How often do you play with your dog and for how long for each session?
