Have you ever heard of a wedding director?

I was talking to my mother-in-law who is from NY. I am guessing that a wedding director is a southern tradition? I didn't have one but I know if you were going to have a big wedding you would appoint a wedding director to take care of all the details. This would be a person close to you but not in the wedding party. You might give the job to your mom, god-mother, aunt, or other close family member or friend. I know currently people use wedding planners instead. The difference is a wedding director would be the wedding planner but wouldn't get paid. Did you use either of these for your wedding? If so, which one and how did you like it?

Personally I think planning your own wedding would be fun, I don't think I would like anyone else making plans for me, but then in my little group I am the planner of all our get togethers, and I love it but then I guess if your not into that maybe it would be best to get someone else to do it.

I think it's a lot of fun planning celebrations. Then again it could just be that I am bossy. LOL. I wouldn't want anyone planning anything for me either but I think this was an old tradition before wedding planners became popular. I also think it was an honorary title to give someone something to do. You planned everything and the wedding director just made sure it ran smoothly.
