I was so lucky to have an awesome step father, granted my father had died and he really did not have any competition so to speak. But he was and remains a constant force in my life. (him and my mom have gotten divorced) I could not imagine not having him in my life. I know so many people have horror stories about step parents, I think it would be nice to say things we appreciate about our step parents. After all they did not have to be there for us, and they were. My step father did all the things dad's do, dance lessons, recitals, etc. he took me to class, came to college and took me to lunch on the spur of the moment. He was there for me like a father should be. Like I said I could not imagine not having him be a part of my life. Step parents do not have to be bad.. tell me about your experience or if you are a step parent tell me about that as well, do you feel it was hard for you to accept the children as your own, did you have a hard time accepting your step parent?

Hi Meandmy3, My step father came into my life just as I turned into a teenager and I was still angry towards my dad for leaving, he put up with me through a difficult rebellious time and although I didn't appreciate him then as I have grown older, late 40's now I see that he was more constant in my life and my mothers life than my own father ever was. Although both alive I don't see either very often as they both live a fair distance away but I am close to both. Huggles. Ellie :D

Also I forgot to add that I had a wonderful step mother too until she and my dad divorced, again I didn't get on with her at all at first as she wasn't much older than me so I told her I would respect her for being my dads wife but don't ever try to be a mother to me and once we both knew where we stood she did in fact become a very good friends. Although I got on with my step father I didn't get on at all well with my step sisters they were just like the ones in Cinderella and have nothing to do with them, they don't bother with their own father at all either.

Well, my real dad left my Mom, my sister and I when I was 4, and then my Mom got remarried when I was 7. I never really knew my Dad when he was alive, but did meet him once in 1986 as an adult. But my Step Dad was very abusive to all of us kids, and has been known to abuse his grandkids as well. So for me I would rather never see him again and wish that he would have to spend some time in jail for all the nightmares he has caused over the yrs. as well.

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. I wish that everyone would get to be as lucky as I was.
