is it totally made up? or is there some meaning in it like it like it was inspired by an ancient language or something? or is it just some scribbled meaningless crap some computer maker made up for the fun of it? just curious lol..

Hello! Well, the font windings maybe used to hide a message and can be decoded by highlighting then change to a readable font. Or it can be used to draw by a combination of the symbols. I think that font is more convenient to use rather than pressing alt+(4digit combination) to enter a symbol when memorized. Have a nice day!

i would think it would be a pain to use since im not sure if all email sites support it to where it would show up correctly

I don't know how they came about and I have been meaning to check them out as I guess I can use one of my scrapping programs to run them off and cut them out...I just haven't had time....but I think they are for the fun of it...why else would you use them?

that is a very good question. I haven't thought to look, but I wonder if they still have it in MS Word. I remember it from my old Word Perfect days, and I used to have a lot of fun with it. There was another one similar called Milestones, that had other celebration-oriented things, as opposed to office like things they have in Wingdings. Both are great!

If i'm not mistaken, and as what i can remember, according to my uncle that font was used to reveal images of what happened in the September 11 attack. Try typing Q33NY (the flight of the first plane to hit the world trade center) in "wingdings 1" and change the font to a larger font. you will see an airplane attacked by two buildings and a skull and a star sign. really creepy!!

From what i recall - they came about in 1990 and were done by Microsoft (not surprising they like gobblygook) They combined a few sets of fonts together - i cant remember what ones. I do know if you type in NYC its a skull and crossbones, Star of david, and the thumbs up sign. There was a bit of controversy about that at one point and microsoft said it wasnt intentional that the letters to symbols settings were randomly set.

yeah there was a discussion a few days ago about if you put in "Q33NY" which i guess was the name of the plane or something and how it comes up with a plane headed towards two towers then the skull and jewish star
