If you are obese and really want to lose weight would you consider having lap band surgery? I have thought about it alot and if I can afford it in the future I want to have it done. I am morbid obese and I think this would be the best thing for me to lose weight. I have tried and have lost weight over the years but I wasn't successful keeping it off. I believe I will be able with a lap band. I did think of stomach stapling but that isn't for me! It isn't for everyone! Every day I get more and more to being fed up with my weight! I need help and I think the lap band is right for me!

My old roommate's parent just got the lap band surgery a few months ago, and it went very well for them. I live pretty far away from them, so I haven't seen their progress, but they've been losing weight steadily. Personally, I don't think I would try the surgery, as I have had difficulties with anaesthetic before (and tossing your cookies right after stomach surgery probably isn't a good idea). If you're serious about going for this surgery, I suggest researching local doctors and see who has the highest success rate. Good luck!

I went in for a consultation to see if the surgery would be right for me (I have to lose at least 70 pounds.) There are lots of specific things people need to do following this surgery, such as thoroughly chewing food before swallowing since the pouch created by the lap band fills up quickly (only a few tablespoons.) Patients shouldn't drink anything while eating because that will wash the food out of the pouch and into the stomach. Also, carbonated beverages like sodas aren't allowed because the lap band prevents the gas from being burped back up, so it can cause bloating.
As long as you're able to follow the diet/exercise guidelines the doctor gives you, this surgery should be a great help. Good luck to you!
