Lion deaths in the Gir National Park

By October 2005 from the time I visited Sasan Gir National park and Sanctuary, famous for being one of the few only habitats of Asiatic lions left, Seven lions died in mysterious conditions. One particular incident which came in the news was particularly gruesome. www.asiatic-lion.org/news/news-0511.html Many more death reports followed this particular news report. And government is still in denial. No one knows now exactly how many of them are alive. Or what their actuall numbers are. If we are not careful, soon from being restricted to only Sasan Gir Sanctuary, the great Asiatic Lions would soon be extinct or only found in captivity. Which would be an absolute shame. Why are we so insensitive to animals? People who justify killing forget that we, the humans have intruded into their territory and reduced their natural prey. What do you expect, that these carnivores will just go and sit in some corner of the ever reducing habitat. There have been cases where the lions have died due to negligence of the authorities.
