If I guess in Sodoku, am I doing something wrong with the puzzle?

im just a semi beginner, and my "mentor" told me that you shouldnt guess in Sodoku.. sometimes the puzzle is so hard that i guess some of the numbers and do some trial and error. Do you do this to? Or am I doing something wrong with the puzzle?
Sometimes, the numbers fit right but when i look at the answers page, i misplaced or interchanged some of the numbers. does it happen to you?

Guessing in Su-do-ku is a grave mistake. In fact the worst you can make. To play su-do-ku you have to decide on a square and check the vertical line, horizontal line and the 9-boxed-partition for any repetations.

hey ebook freak. im only guessing when i play in sodoku when it seems hopeless, like i cant find anymore number to fill out a box. sometimes it looks like you always have two choices. how do you solve a puzzle like that?

Hi KuKaisiton,
You can't guess work on Sudoku becuse all the numbers have to be 1-9 in any square box, you have to read the instructions before you do them so next time you do the puzzle, read it first, no guess work.

hi tamara, the one who introdced me to sodoku also told me that you cant guess. but there are just some puzzles that are too hard to solve. sometimes there are two choices as to where you woud place a number. i feel hopeless when i cant find anymore solutions that i guess and place clues. any tips? if you want i can show you a puzzle i cant solve
