all of us can easily think what is the most important, the math or English subject?
all of us experience to be student right? so you can easily answer my question.
for me, the most important is the math subject. my teacher in English subject ask me that kind of question. hmmmm. i answer her, math is really important for me.why?its because we cannot compute anything, everything here in the world without a math. math is very much useful in our daily lives, like: paying, buying, computing and etc. anywhere we go math is always there.
English is not really that important compared in math. although studying English can easily communicate us to other people to other country using English language. we can interact, communicate, can tell all our feelings and emotions. but without a math?how can we be a progress country. are you favored in me?
in that answer, my teacher doesn't give me any points. I'm sad. its really unfair with me. but i don't want to make it a big problem because its only my opinion.
happy mylotting! have a nice day ahead

For me English is important. Believe me, it is based on my real life experience.
In our place, getting a passmark in English language isn't that important, you can pass your exams even if you get 0 in English. Thus, I didn't give emphasis on this subject and right after my secondary school examination, I found out that there is no life without English in this modern competitive world. I was down and out, I couldn't pass Engineering exams due to lack in English. I was very good in Maths and got 100/100 in my school times but since I got admissison in college, I couldn't keep up the studies.
English is that important.

Well, I am very much surprised with your response sanuanu!!! You are the Engineering student and you consider English language the most important thing?. I am also the engineering student and I think mathematics is more important. And for the engineering, mathematical is the must thing, that we have to be good with. Yes English is also necessary. But it has its own importance. I hear no one who say here that I am weak in English and I can't pass engineering. They say, mathematics is the reason that the engineering is the difficult. The integrations, derivatives, Laplace etc etc etc are basic tools for engineering. And for this we don't need very much grammatically correct English language to understand them. Every subject of engineering consist of the mathematics, in fact the basic tool for engineering...

True, very true.
I was a very good student of Matsh in my school time but you don't need to have only Maths after school, you need to be good in Phy and Chem too to clear Engineering exams. Those exams can't be given in Hindi language, isn't it?
Thus, if I am not an Engineer today, then me being less proficient in English was one of the reasons.
I am very good at Mathematics, I have never felt scared from Integration, Derivatives et.c

I am really surprised that the English subject can also lead some one seriously not to pass the Engineering. Here in Nepal, we have to study the English subject for only one semester. That is all about preparing for reports, giving presentations and so on.
Perhaps you felt difficult in understanding the engineering terms which are of course difficult for me too. Many times, I have also worked hard to memorize some sentences that I really don't understand but the point necessary to be written in the exam hehe...
Upto now, the English subject has not mattered me that much, though I have to give all the exams in English not in Nepali. And mostly writing the exactly grammatical sentences is not required in describing for engineering subjects. Writing just enough to make it comprehensible is most important.
Anyway enjoy mylotting...

i think it's both important.. we use it in our daily lives.. but also for me,wisdom is more important, it's because knowledge is nothing if you can't apply it in you life.

Well jhoanne, in my opinion English is the tool to understand things and that is enough about English. And you said wisdom is the important thing, I hope the tool for wisdom is the mathematical calculations. Math is the basis of wisdom in my opinion. Mathematics is not only add or subtract the money, it is more than that. You analyze various things in mind and there is always the mathematics in them...Just my opinion on mathematics and wisdom...

I disagree unless I was intending to make a career in Accounting I could use a calculator for basic help if I needed it. However a good knowledge of English is very important in every aspect of my life.

you can't understand math if you don't understand English. English is the only medium used to communicate most of the areas in the world. That's why it's very essential to learn the language. math has lots of word problems and you can't figure things out if you can't understand English. There is no other language used in Math. When you do math, you are also doing English.

Both Math and English are important because we are sure to use them almost in our daily lives. Both are also very helpful when it comes to jobs. For example, let's say that you want to work as a call center agent. It would be a dire need to speak english all the time, right? There would be times when you will have to use Mathematics too. Well, that is just my opinion. Bith are very important in our daily lives. There is no "which is more important" because both are very important.
Happy myLotting :)

In fact both of these subjects are important. However, when you are looking for a job, then it will be beneficial if you are good at English. It seems mastering English well is an important requirement for the employees. If you read the job recruitment, you can see the requirement of English rather than maths.
I love China

Hello again mymaria!!!
Well I completely agree with you that math is the important thing. But this doesn't mean that English is not important. Well, I think I English is the tool that helps us interpret with the understandings and even mathematics.
And it is very true that mathematics is very necessary for the development of the country. My math teacher used to say in class, that math is the most important subject of all. Because it is related to every subjects. If we don't understand math, we can't understand other subjects too. I am a science student, and my teacher used to say that without math you can't understand physics, you can't understand chemistry and so on. Well very true said...
Mathematics is the tool for the development of the nation. Every invention in this world are based on mathematical calculations, observations and the mathematical proofs. If there is no mathematical basis on any theory, then it is proved to be very much hypothetical and that has no any basis.
Mathematics is the basic tool for engineering, which I am studying now. We already have the enough of English. And now learning more and being perfect in English can't develop my country. Mathematics is more important for this things....
Practically, very touch mathematical calculations are there in every field, every signal we get like cell phones, TV signals, radio signals, internet and so on....
I can define much about the importance of mathematics....
No matter your teacher agree with you or not...But I completely agree with you. It is the nature of every teacher to make feel the students that their subject is the most important....
Nice post mymaria...Keep posting...Happy mylotting...

In studies,i think both the subjects are equally important, because in my country,if we fail mathematics or english,we could not graduate from our secondary school to a higher institude. But in daily lives,i feel that english is the more important one as we can communicate with each other using english and like we are now doing in mylot. But for maths, there are so many things that are not applicable in our daily lives in my opinion. So,the answer for this question is depending how you look at it.

I think both of them have importance in there own place. We all know the math that is required for everyday life and we all know English as much required to communicate with others. Its all about the minimum requirement and with this we can not judge a subject. Each subject have greater perspective. If you are a science student then it is more important that you know math better because you will need it everywhere. But you really don't have to use some fancy language with lots of art work in it you will just use the proper terms and you are done. But if you are a arts student then it is must that you know good english because without proper knowledge of english you would not be able to get good marks.
So the entire thing depends upon the person concern.

Oh,I have a different view on the topic. I think english is more important than math in our daily life. I mean english is more useful. According to my work experience, one person can get a good job if he is good at english while a person who is good at math limits the professions.
For me, when I were in schools, I don't like english . I mean enlish is not good or bad, it is a tool to communicate with others. I just hate the way to learn english. The teacher asked us to recite the words and passangers. I were painful and felt it meaningless. And math is my favourite subject.I think it is interesting and I always want to find the answer of math question like a detective story.

For me both subjects are important even if I like English more than Math. It's because I found my strength in English than in Math. Both subjects are important because they are interdependent with each other. Communication is really important for us to be able to understand each other and avoid conflicts. Knowing how to calculate is also important because all of us deals with money and great things were created by man because of brilliant calculations. Both English and Math has made our lives convenient.

I think this depends on a few things. One is that it depends on where you live. Obviously, if you don't live in an English speaking country, then English may not be as important. Especially in our technological world, it is important to know math. Especially if you decide to go into one of many careers that require it. English is also very important if your going to need it to communicate. But if you live somewhere where you communicate mainly in another language, and you won't need much English, then it isn't so important.

Both subjects are very important for education and for everyone to learn is key. I might be in the minority but math could be more important. English is easier to learn than Math problems, in my opinion. More people will use math in the future and numbers are very important.

Wow, I am glad that you think of that way. Anyway, both subjects are important, that is why we go to school for. Just answer your teacher, both are important subjects, I am glad to study under you.

Hi Mymaria, both are equally important to us. I agree with your statement that maths is the most important subject in our life. We almost used it daily and English is important as well, if we don't learn English we can't communicate to the world. As you know some countries they don't need English at all, unless you are staying there.

I have to say English is most important, because we need English to learn so many other things in life. Without English, we can't read, write or communicate effectively. Without English, we can't learn about our history or the world's geography. If English is our first language, we need a good command of it to be able to learn a second language.
We can pick up the basic maths we need for everyday life as we go along, but you cannot pick up a good command of English. It needs to be taught - and learned.

Well interesting topic to start!!! it is a debatable question as to what is important? For me it is maths because maths develops a logic in you to understand and get quick solutions to your day to day problems but at the same time language is also important to communicate. For me it not the language type that is important but the communication that is important. English being a universal language you need to understand but its more of maths that can help you grow because it creates a logical thinking in you.
Language can be of any medium, french, spanish etc but it is more important to learn maths than just a language...
