Do you speak other languages other than your native language? What languages do you speak? Would you like to improve a language or learna new one? I love languages! Apart from English which is my native language I speak French, German and a little Russian. I would really like to improve my Russian as I think it is such an interesting langauge but I find it hard to have the time to practise along with my other studies at University. I would love one day to learn Chinese as I think it is such an interesting language. Unfortunately I certainly don't have time to start learning a language from scrtch at the moment! Perhaps when I'm older

Wow, you're amazing! You can speak 4 different languages. You're pretty linguistic! To answer your question, I only speak Tagalog (my native language), English and a little bit of Chinese. I would like to improve my Chinese speaking skills because I really love the Chinese culture. I'm kinda 1/4 chinese but I don't know how to speak that language! Haha. Perhaps when I'm older too. I'll have a lot of time for that. I would also love to learn how to speak Japanese too because I think it's a pretty good language. I know how to speak japanese but only by words. I learnt a bit of Japanese when I was still watching animes. Talk about being a fangirl =) This is such an interesting discussion. Thanks and Happy myLotting friend! =)

As you two have referred to Chinese, that is my native language. It's so a attractive language i have to say. Acturally, there are many kinds of Chinese. Maybe now in your country the Chinese you hear is mostly called Cantonese which is said by Cantonese. The standard Chinese is called Mandarin. I highly recommend you to learn Mandarin Chinese.^^

Aside from my native language, which is filipino, I also know how to speak english. Some of those that I know think that I speak well but, I still need to learn more vocabularies. I can communicate in english well but, there are still times that I wish I could've used a better word or two. I know little in spanish and fewer in japanese. I would like to learn japanese before but, now, I think I need to learn more on korean as I deal with most of them at my current work (^_^")

I think so too and I am also considering that those who do want to pratice their english communication skills could also go here in myLot to continuously use and practice their english skills, even though if it would be only in written form and not the actual speaking which most of them would prefer.. (^_^")

My native language is English, but I have been living in Germany for 14 years now and speak the language fluently, especially as it is our main language of communication at home. I learnt a little French at school and can still understand a reasonable amount, but would like to get back into it. I have also picked up some Italian, as my husband is half-Italian. I have found that I am totally useless at learning languages by rote, but I pick them up quite quickly orally. I speak a few words of Russian, but would really love to be able to speak more. In fact, there are personal reasons why this language would be my main priority in the learning sense. I would also love to be able to speak Welsh and Hebrew, because of my Welsh and Jewish roots respectively. And then there's Japanese and Swedish, because of my fascination with both countries...

Thanks for sharing! I guess living in a different country would make you fluent in the language. I hope you are successful in your language learning in the future!

Thank you! :-) Definitely, it's far and away the best way to learn, I think. Although having said that, my Italian father-in-law has lived in Germany for nearly 50 years now, and his German is still terrible *lol*

It is great to know lots of language and I think you gain the respect of native people of that particular country if you can converse with them rather than expect them to know your language.

My native language is Bahasa Indonesia, and other than that, I speak English. I learnt French when I was in High School, so I don't really speak French, but would love to learn more. I love learning languages, and my next targets will be Mandarin and Japanese. Anyway, I envy people who speak Russian, lol.

Hello,I am a Chinese.My native language is Chinese.I'm very glad to hear that you like Chinese.I think practising is very important in Language Study.Except for my mother language,I can speak English and a little Japanese.English is my second language at school while Japanese is learned by myself in my spare time.Though I study both of these two languages.My speaking skills are still very poor.There is an important reason is that I have no partners to practise that.I really want to improve my English and Japanese in speaking.
@beki710 (949)
16 May 09
Yes having speaking partners is very important in helping you to improve the language. If you join a class perhaps you'll be able to find others that can speak the language with you.
