Should I be looking to buy a new ram or just do another system whipe or?

My laptop is acting very veird. 1. It only turns on when it feels like it randomly or after Ive turned it on first in safe mode or done a random memory diagnostic 2.When it does boot up it usually works smoothly untill it falls asleep then it crashes and the weird thing is I have turned sleep mode off. When ever I leave for an hour or more and come back its just a black screen and its not responding to anything I already had my system whiped about a month ago and I think its too much of a coincidence that its gone bonkers again like this. Had the speed of my 2 GB ram checked today I prosume my result should have been 2000mhz i only got 1265mhz...any comments would be greatly appreciated
