Is pizza a kind of healthy food or not?

Once I heard from a piece of BBC news comment saying that pizza is absolutely a healthy food. Later on, from talking with a few of my Canadian friends who are crazy about pizza, I was advised that pizza is actually not a healthy food. I did not question them because they seem so certain about it. My initial guess is that pizza with more vegetables but less meat or fat may be healthier? I don't know. What do you think?

Pizza is healthy as long as you don't eat too much of it. It has a lot of variety--grain, vegetable, meat, dairy. As long as it doesn't have like a really thick layer of fatty cheese and you don't eat it every day, it's not unhealthy. More veggies make it still healthier, although meat has it's merit too as long as you don't overdo it.

I prefer pizza with more meat than that with more vegetables, and I cannot stop eating it even for a week. Looks I can't just rely on pizza to keep fit. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

More vegetable and less meat can be healthier. The more vegetables you have in your diet the better! But if you are on a diet where you need to watch how many carbs you eat, well pizza probably would be your greatest option. Or if you are on a low sodium diet, well there is a lot of salt in pizza. Personally if you are not on any specific diet, eat in moderation. Too much of any one thing is not healthy.

"Too much of any one thing is not healthy." This is always correct. :)

Like you said, it depends on the type of toppings that you put on it. Another factor is the type of crust, thick crust is probably not as healthy as a thin crust. So a good and healthy pizza would be a vegetarian one with thin crust

Oh, I didn't expect the thickness of the crust to be a factor of the healthiness of a pizza. Thank you.

Pizza isn't that healthy, but you can make it healthier. If you can make the crust (wheat), the sauce (or find a lowfat sauce), and use lowfat cheese, it won't be as bad as pizza usually is. You can also add vegetables if you need something extra. Something that my friend does when she makes a pizza is to take a paper towel or two and pat down the top of the pizza, to try to get the surface grease off.

Using a paper towel to3 get surface grease off is a good way to get rid of extra fat. Thank you for sharing this method. I'll give it a try when I have a chance. :)

well more veggies is good for the body than those that are more in meat, but I guess too much of something is really not good at all. Its not that pizza is unhealthy but we should be try to be more moderate in eating food. We can try other meals if we want to be healthier, like fruits and other vegestables. It is much better that way I guess.

First of all, if you come here in Italy and take a pizza, you can find a food that is absolutily not like pizza in other country... I can say that the real Italian pizza is very very healthy, because it is made of genuine and natural ingredients!
