We are a part of the largest working democracy. But looking us today. Our regional aspirations have become so profound that we cannot even vote for one national party and give them the powers to run the country without any constant obstacle. I am scared of the left coming to power. If they do come to power, we will have more of nandigram and singur. And if we go on like this, just thinking of our state and nothing else, one day a time may come when there would be no India left for us. These are National elections and we need to think from a nation wide view. It is the politicians who represent us. They will see to it that each region develops. A nation wide policy is made. Coaliation is going to ruin us someday. Look at all the prosperous countries today. And observer their governance. The top three countries or four countries -- U.S.A, Japan, Australia and England do not have coalition politics. What does that tell us.
Dont we need to come over our regionalism and think national to save our Nation India. Lets take a step forward and come over regionalism.

Indian public is shallow and mean and selfishly vote on the basis of cast, creed, religion, region and personal gain. They need more suffering before they will learn how to carry on a democracy.

India should not have become independent. 1947 was not the right time to get freedom. 75% of population at that time was illiterate. politicians took advantage of this and divided the country into cast, region, religion, languages and did not let people become educated, which is the first requirement of any democracy. this is carried on and on till today. things have come to this point that if educated people want to come and stand in election, either they are threatened to withdraw or do not get votes because they don't have money to campaign. people still vote keeping in mind the party, caste and religion. how its going to change? only god knows.

We are the largest democracy, but a shameless democracy where anything is up for sale. democracy in reality doesnot mean what dictionary says. problem with india is that it allows all sundry parties to participate at centre. if constitution is amended to allow only 2 major parties with Pan India presence it will be an interesting to see how issues will rule. Let the regional parties rule at their bastion, but they should not be allowed to armtwist the centre into giving them more than others. at the centre it is better it have a strong party with a majority. that will be good for easy decision making.
India cannot be compared to US,Japan,Australia or England. here in India every 50-100 kilometers, you find an entirely different world intermingling with every other, yet having its own identity. that cannot be said about the above mentioned countries.
regionalism gained because the national parties were not interested in addressing the needs of the people. every region has its own needs. each needs to be tailor made and a single solution do not fit every one. if the centre recognises this anomaly and addresses it straight, regionalism will disappear in a few years. presently most central leaders are with a regional view. given a chance, any MP will prefer to be a chief minister and play a regional role than have a larger national role. when such thinking prevails, nationalism will take a hard hit.
