Went to see Angels and Demons last night...

don't worry, this isn't going to be a big Science v Religion discussion. I spent a fair amount of the film wondering whether they had filmed a lot of the Vatican scenes (Basilica and St Peters Square etc.) because it was clear that the Vatican hadn't/wouldn't allow filming there. It turned out that this bits were filmed on a specially built set. I have to say that it was a very impressive set indeed in that case.

I want to watch that movie, specially because that there is an Israeli actress there, and I want to see her. The thing is I have heard that I have to watch the previous movie to understand that one. Is it true ?

No you really don't have to have seen or read the other one. There may be some bonus if you have, but I went with a friend who hadn't and she seemed to enjoy it just fine.

Thank God, they did not use the Holy Place (Vatican City) for their silly film. Well, I am not going to watch it, sorry, but I was disappointed with Dan Brown's stupid choose of topics, like the useless Da Vinci code where he contorted Christian history and the concept of salvation and mangled the sacredness of Catholic religion deeply hurting the followers, this film will going to be another story of displeasing Jesus. It's frustrating to know that after Jesus Christ's effort to save mankind, He reaped ruthless act from the people he tried to save from eternal damnation.

We are not a sore loser, the point here is that Holy places should not be used in silly purposes just to generate income and selfish endeavor at the expense of sacred venues. As Catholics, we are deeply hurt with the stupidity of Dan Brown, no one in this world has the right to challenge God and all its existence, if there's one thing we should put into consideration of respect its our religion, if you are criticizing one's faith and religion then you are a loser, nobody has the right to contort religion history. The point here is simple. If you want to splash your dirt around the world, spare the holy places like Vatican city, it's the focal point of our religion which the film painfully lambasted, so why on earth those stupid people should be allowed to get in there? Let me illustrate this, if your home or place is extremely lambasted, would you allow them to get in?only crazy and lunatic people will allow that to happen. I am Catholic and i read Da Vinci Code and watched the movie... never really liked the two of them... i think the plot interesting... but i never questioned my faith in God or Jesus Christ in the process... i never said the Vatican officials are sore loser... but a lot of people would see them as that... since scholars and even respected theologians would certainly see that the Vatican seemed to be so close minded in terms of treating the work of Dan Brown as Fiction... I love being Catholic and i have a deep respect for its authority... i even cried when i saw Pope John Paul II during World Youth Day... but i always try to keep an open mind... Dan Brown is not the only one who wrote something like the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons... we are all entitled to our own opinion... and only God has the right to judge us... no point on casting a stone at those who sinned when we all know that we are and will never be perfect...

I read about that... seems like the Vatican officials used their influence into giving the director and producers a hard time to secure a permit to film there... so they just opted to build their own set... can't say i can blame the Vatican... with how the Catholic Church was depicted in the Da Vinci Code... but this act just made them look like a sore loser...

Is it any good? I liked the book better than The Da Vinci Code. I like The Da Vinci Code too but I was pretty bored watching the movie so I don't know if it'll be the same case with Angels and Demons...

I read the book and sometimes the movie dont justify the story in the book. Maybe because of the time constrain. Im going to watch it this coming week and im just hoping that i will be satisfied with the movie.

That is what I was worried about. Didn't want to see another Science v Religion film. Thanks for this post. I am definitely going to see. At first I was going to wait til it hit DVD. Was the film enjoyable or did it have just great effects and a built set?

I enjoyed it more than the first one personally - I think it was more action-driven, the timeline of the film being quite clearly driven by the timing of the events of the narrative. In many ways it is entertaining hocum of course :-) There is a strong science v religion element to the film (its a huge part of the story after all), just not what I wanted to focus on in my comment :-)
