It is so important to get one regular check up, because you can have high blood pressure or hypertension and feeling fine. Sometime it does not cause sign and syntoms that you can see and feel. According to study, Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries. When the doctor measure your blood pressure the result are given in two numbers, this is called Systolic Pressure it measure your heart beat. The second is called Diastolic pressure , it measure the pressure while your heart relaxes between beats. Normal blood pressure is a Systolic pressure of less than 120 and a Disaolic pressure of less than 80. One reson to have regular visit to the doctor is to have your blood pressure checked. When you know the state of your pressure you will know the necessary precaustion to take that you can be in good health and live longer.

Last month, I was kinda alarmed with my blood pressure level because it soared to 140/90!!! I was really shocked, and got panicked. My friend told me that his blood pressure reading is also high, like 140/100 and he's taking something to lower it down, and I think it's his maintenance already as per doctor's order. When I asked my sister to check on my blood pressure level again, it's down to 110/70 mmHg. I told my other friend, who's working in the hospital's emergency room where I got my high BP reading, and she told me that I have to be checked because there's a tendency that the BP cuff in ER is not working.. and so I did, and thank God and I felt relieved to find out that my BP is really 110/70mmHg.

140/90 is not really high though, just borderline; even a person with low BP could get a reading like that if he or she is under stress.

Thats correct and true! We should be in guard especially in our blood pressure this can lead to us to pain and anxiety if we just leave this . This is a good personal check up to each individual to know if we are normal or anemic or else hypertensive. This is a good habit that we should in order for us to be healthy always.

How True this is, and there are many medications and such a person can take when dealing with High Blood pressure as well, but the Best thing is to know where you are at especially as you get older to help prevent any future signs of Heart attack or stroke. Keeping aware of these things, and treating them as needed is the Best thing one can do for sure.

I do agree that it is really important to monitor our health from time to time. Some diseases are really very tricky and you might not know that your health is already on the line. High blood pressure may lead to stroke which will definitely be a major problem. By knowing the status of our blood pressure you will certainly be able to control your actions as well as monitor the intake of food that may lead to to hypertension.

Ya, you're right. Having regualr health check is important for us to have early detection and take necessary precautions to prevent the illness or diseases from getting worse. I have regular health check yearly, and it's free of charge since it's provided by our company, haha. Thank god that my blood pressure is within normal range. However my cholesterol level is a bit higher than the healthy limit. I guess i've to start eating healthy diet to reduce my cholesterol level from now on. However, there're actually some circumstances where a person will just suffer from heart attack or other heart diseases without any symptom. This situation will be tough and there's not much we can do to prevent it, sadly to say. My mum is one of the instance. She passed away diagnosed with heart disease, but without pre-signs of it and it comes just like in a sudden.

An apple a day keeps the Doctor away, but then some will not take an apple a day and the day they get sick they take 6 apples, nah it don't work that way. We also need regular exercise helps in circulating the blood and all. but then most of all we need to go for check up like you rightly said.

When I had a checkup, my blood pressure was up and the nurse told me that this usually happens when someone was worried. So I knew then that not only was I overweight, and had a family history of diabetes (the checkup was before I had the complete physical and I suspected that something was wrong) but there was a chance that I could have high blood pressure. I find that when I am worried, it goes up and also when I do not get enough exercise. I later found out I had diabetes and that meant that there was a good chance, it was up, but then it went down again. Most of it was due to me walking a lot and not letting things get to me.

I'm a healthy 75, and my last checkup was over 30 years ago. I distrust the medical establishment. A doctor's job is to find something wrong with his patient's health. Did you ever hear of anyone coming from a Doctors appointment who had been told by the Dr. that he was Healthy? Of course Not! That doctor is there for one reason- to make money and there is NO money in it for him if he sees healthy patients. No doctor Ever has a Healthy patient. That's only one reason why I avoid the Doctor. The other reason is - I enjoy being Healthy. Its important to my health, that I be healthy! If I went to the docto, and was found unhealthy, it would ruin my Health, because I could no longer enjoy Good Health.

4 years ago, I went to the doctor feeling very weird indeed, dizzy and with a bad headache which felt like huge pressure was being exerted inside my head. It turned out that my blood pressure was 200/120. He instantly gave me a tablet to reduce it, and wouldn't let me leave the clinic until it had dropped to 150/100 - still high, but as the doctor put it, no longer at such acute risk of having a stroke then and there. Since then, I have been on 3 types of medication (an ACE inhibitor, a diuretic and a beta blocker) and as long as I take these, my BP is under control and causes me no problems whatsoever. Neither do I suffer from headaches any more. So.... I urgently recommend everyone to get their BP checked, especially if they are having symptoms like mine.
