Sorry dude, my car stalled.... (big rant)

So last night my hubby and I were on our way back home from a very nice dinner out. We had decided to go home to a nice empty house instead of picking up our daughter from my friend since we had um... some other plans before she was snuggling up between us like she tends to do. There was quite a bit of traffic, usually is down the main drag in town on Friday nights. Not a problem, expected actually. Sometimes I look at people in the cars around me, not long enough for them to notice but long enough for me to sometimes see someone singing along or dancing or poking their eye or whatever. There was this lady in the car next to us a little ahead and she looked like she was having a seizure or something. Then her CAR had a seizure, and she must've restarted it. She went right back to moving around all jerky like her brain wasn't connected right, I was kind of watching out of the corner of my eye the way you'd watch a train wreck occurring. Anyhow, so she gets into our lane, in front of us. The light at the intersection on the overpass turned red, so we slowed down, expecting to stop. Suddenly her car is like.... moving backwards, without brake lights... and it just keeps coming! Here I am staring at this car backing into us thinking 'holy sh!t...' and my hubby leans on the horn but the car keeps coming!!! Meanwhile the light changes but her car is sitting practically right on top of our hood, not freaking moving. She finally RESTARTS the damn car and jerkily peels away, signalling and getting into the other lane. We clear the light and then have to stop for the next one. She is one car ahead in the lane directly next to ours, so hubby rolls down my window and yells 'get off the phone you f****ing idiot!' and there she is with her window rolled down, STILL TALKING on her phone so loud that all the cars around us can probably hear her entire conversation - and she is HOLDING the phone, no headset, no bluetooth, nothing... she goes 'Sorry DUDE, my CAR stalled' (imagine a really sing-songy young voice) and as she is saying that, her car stalls AGAIN, so she is restarting her car while holding her stupid phone on her shoulder and trying to yell out her window at US. $%^&!??? The whole 'dude' thing was bad enough, who uses that word anyway? People who are TWELVE? And it is of our opinion that someone who is still a kid or pretty close to one has no business calling an adult, especially a stranger - 'dude'. Secondly - who stalls their car THREE times in less than a block? Somebody not paying attention? And no, it was a PT cruiser, which doesn't come with a manual transmission, so that cannot be used as an excuse! Have YOU ever accidentally backed into someone on a street and then had the nerve to use an excuse this dumb? I have NEVER rolled back into somebody lol. I could not BELIEVE this! Now that I see it written down, it looks pretty funny.

I wonder if she was purposely shutting down her engine or if she had some real engine problems. You say she was shaking and so was the car... Obviously the cell phone wasn't the cause of the problem but the problem could certainly be compounded by the cell phone use. They call it distracted driving, and it certainly is made worse if the car has a malfunction. It can look funny writing things like that down, I know how you feel and then to proof read it and miss the errors, (not that I found many errors in this piece) It looked like something that I would write at least to a certain extent, you did a great job. Now coming at your destination did you work everything out or did this event change the whole mood of the night?

Well we were headed home for some uh... time to ourselves before I went to collect my daughter from my friend's house. It didn't ruin the evening, it just put a crimp in it! My hubby did say he had always been itching to say that to somebody and it was kinda cool to finally have an opportunity. He has no issues with people who can drive fine and talk on the phone, but anybody who clearly should ONLY EVER do ONE thing at a time and never multitask lest they commit some crime or kill somebody should honestly be prevented from driving at all. What I meant by shaking is that she was just very jerky, with her motions? I don't know if it's because she was talking on her cell phone but some people are extremely animated while talking, they fling their hands and arms around, make faces, laugh, groan, wiggle around, play with their hair, scratch their face... I'm sure you know what I mean. It didn't make much sense when she was in front of me, I just saw thru the back window.

Its pretty lucky that she only rolled backwards, talking on a mobile its lucky she did not plough into someone. I get so annoyed at people I see driving their cars with the mobile phone glued to their ear. It is even worse when we are in a car ourselves and I see them because it mithers me that they will not be paying attention and cause an accident. I do not drive so have never stalled or rolled back into anyone.

I was just so shocked that she did that. Like I couldn't believe she was still rolling and not stopping. I do try to give people the benefit of the doubt, truly I do, but when they HIT you while you're still hoping they are just having impulse control problems, that's a different story!

Hey mommyboo! That is really a serious and scary thing to have happen! All because this moron was on a cell phone and doesn't know how to drive she could have caused a major accident! I would have been really pissed too! But, never mind just that she really could have killed someone! And she had the nerve to have an attitude! That is beyond stupid! I don't know why using a cell phone while driving isn't totally outlawed altogether! Even using a bluetooth is still dangerous! Just because you are using a device you are still distracted by the call and what someone is saying and you can still be made upset and lose sight of what you are doing! I believe that if you really need to take a call or make a call that you should be forced to pull over!

hey mommyboo that is a rather amusing story, great way to start a conversation too. she could have meant "dude" in a way that was making fun of your husband, in a smarty pants kind of way. but that is a really stupid excuse. its not like its the worst excuse ive heard for something that is obviously someones fault, but its still pretty bad. you should have gotten their license plate and reported them, im not sure about where u are, but where i am talkin on the phone while driving is a fineable offence. but anyhoo, great story, sounded interesting.

Oh it was rotten! I mean I was starting to think there was something WRONG with her, when she was beside us stalling, I didn't realize she was on the phone. Here you have to use a headset or a bluetooth, of course I still see people talking on their phones when they aren't supposed to... you can't report everybody but in the case of someone hitting you...
