I just want to know the difference between an orange and a tangerine? How can you tell the difference, and are they in the same category?

One main difference is that oranges are just plucked from the tree whereas tangerines have to be snipped off with a pair of scissors, the tangerines are a winter fruit here but oranges grow all year round.

A tangerine is smaller than an orange and a little bit flat on the top and bottom. The Tangerine is much easier to peel and the segments come apart more easily than with an orange. The taste is different and Tangerines are usually sweeter.

They are pretty similar. They are both citrus fruits. They are both orange in color. They could probably be easily mistaken for each other, if you werent sure what you were looking at! I do think that they have different flavors. The color of the peel also tends to be a bit different - the tangerines are brighter than the oranges. The best way to learn to tell the difference is to get one of each and compare them while sitting next to each other!
