have you ever been to the Colonial Theatre in Boston?

My best friend & I are going to go to see RENT at the Colonial Theatre in Boston. We're hoping to be able to stay overnight so what we're hoping to do is to check into a hotel and be able to walk from the hotel to the Colonial Theatre and maybe hit some bars in the area as well (may as well get the BEST out of Boston, right?). BUT, we've never been there so we don't know what's there. Anyone familiar with the area? What are some local hotels and bars? IS there anything in walking distance to the Theatre?
