Chows are loving, loyal dogs. I've never owned one, but I did have a neighbor whose Chow lived at my house. The daughter would come get him & take him home. By the next morning, he was back on my porch. Nobody ever came in my yard uninvited, yet he'd sit there with me with his head in my lap looking up soooo sweet. The absolute best dog I've ever had was half German Sheperd & half Golden Retriever. When I took him to the vet for his shots, the vet told me I couldn't have done any better if I had bred him myself!!! I'd love to have another!!! Since that time, I've had 3 Black Labs. They are rather hyper dogs & need to play a lot. Yet they are good natured dogs who are willing to protect me & my property. My 1st one used to escape daily. I have 2 now. My boy drove me crazy digging & chewing things up. I got him a girlfriend. Now things are much better!!! I don't have to entertain him near as much as they run & play ALLLL day long. Only problem with 2 is, when they decide to get in trouble, there's 2 doing the damage!!! So you double your pleasure & double the fun...but double the disasters too.

it depends on what your really is your purpose of buying a dog.if you want a furry friend who'll also look after you,buy a bigger working dog.german shepherd, st. bernard, or belgian malinois are good choices.if you want a furry friend who loves sports and getting plenty of exercise, get a cocker spaniel or golden retriever.they'll love playing frisbee in the park.

chowchow? if your intention is getting a guard dog i think you should opt for the bigger ones like rottweiler, german sheperd, these dogs are really good as far as guarding your house is concern. Chowchows are noisy but they're not good enough to guard your house.

I would pick a black lab they are great or at least mine is. Sometimes a pain but kids are. lol Zues is the name of my puppy, which isn't a puppy any more he is about 3 years old and he still acts like the biggest puppy or baby you every known. He is good letting me know that someone is here by barking before they even get to the door. Which is great my hearing is not all the greatest. He sits by myside when I am not feeling good and lays his head on my lap just to let me know that he is there. lol Well speaking of my baby it is time to take him out and feed him. So I hope that you find the a good dog.
