Hi Ray, I use 7Zip to compress/decompress a large text file. I use OpenOffice to do daily job. A VLC to watch my favorite movie... VIM to edit a large data. If you count linux as an application then I'm using it daily... Nice to know you ray

I think open source software will be widely used in the education field. I used moodle to study a course. In my university, the teachers use moodle to create the course and ask the students to sign in and join in the discussion and sharing the teaching and learning materials. The teachers often post a notice, assign a task ,upload the teaching materials in the moodle platform. moodle provides a teacher-student bilateral communication virtual environment. It is very convenience to use moodle create a course and moodle is very popular in my university.

I use Open Office. It has everything that MS Office does, you can use it for creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawing, etc. It has all of the useful features that you are used to getting in Microsoft Word, for instance, but it doesn't have some of the more annoying ones. Open source software is constantly being upgraded and updated by people who use it and know its functions and foibles. In general, open source software is every bit as good as some licensed software and in some cases, it is better.
