Seems like this week on MyLot the hot topic is Gay Marriage. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone loves telling other people what that opinion is. So heres another soapbox for you! Lets talk about all these commercials that have been coming out. Exhibit A is a now infamous commercial put out by Nation for marraige. Org. I do not know its origins but it has swept the internet in the past few months. Have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bDjkKnO_cM Now that we have seen an advertisement against gay marriage, lets take a look at one that is in favor. This commercial is being currently being aired in my home state of New York: Exhibit B: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61bfB_P8wmQ What do you think about these popular commercials? Is there anything that stands out to you about one or the other? Do either of these commercials change your opinion of gay marriage in some way? I am of the opinion that at this point it seems like the line in the sand has been drawn, and people have taken up their side. I would be interested to know if commercials like these actually change anyone’s opinion, and if they are really doing any good at all.

The only thing a commercial like that could do for me is make me dislike anti-gay marriage groups more. Why do they feel like they have to lie and misrepresent the issue? My guess is because if they couldn't play off of people's fears, they'd have no leg to stand on.

One line that stood out for me about the first one is that woman who said "My rights will be taken away." I do not really understand what "rights" she is talking about exactly...?

Interesting question. I haven't seen either of these commercials having stopped watching most shows in real life choosing to record and then fast forward through anything that looks like a commercial. I don't believe that everyone's mind is made up. I believe there is room to change and evolve and people's opinions will continue to evolve. Latest surveys show that the younger a person is the more accepting they are of diversity and diversified issues. If we take note of the most recent movements of the states on the east coast changes are happening and happening quickly. I don't believe there will be a popular vote that will satisfy this question. It will be changed by political position of the United States government that offers domestic partners the same rights afforded to "married" couples. Marriage is a term used by the churches. I don't need a church to sanctify my relationship. I am in favor of civil unions performed by a justice of the peace that effectively gives a couple who is recognized as a couple the same legal rights at is now afforded to heterosexual couples.
