Random Acts of Kindness

Do you ever participate in doing random acts of kindness? What have you done for others? Why? How did it make you feel? If you haven't participated in random acts of kindness, do you think you ever will? Why or why not? I try to make a point of doing random acts of kindness each day because I feel that giving back to the world that has given me life is very important. Without all of humanity, I would not be here, you know? So, from time to time I will do something like leave coupons for free products on the shelf at the grocery store, help an older person get their groceries into their trunk, or offer an ear to someone I don't know just because they look like they are having a rough day. Sometimes, a random act of kindness can be eye contact and a genuine smile to someone who might not normally get that. Sometimes random acts of kindness are big and sometimes they may seem small, but you never know how those acts will actually affect the person on the receiving end.

I love random acts of kindness in both doing and receiving. Unfortunately I haven't had too many opportunities to do much in the way of random acts of kindess lately it seems. I do wish people performed them a lot more often. There's too much negativity in this world. I do remember one time I did a RAK that didn't get the response I had expected. It was two or three years ago and I had gotten home from a vacation. My parents, sister, nieces, and I were eating at this restaraunt. After we finished, we were leaving and I was the last person out. Not far behind me was a woman who had her hands filled with bags of take-out. Naturally, I decided to do the nice thing and hold the door opened for her. She glared at me and walked off without saying a word.

Hi abkinsey, Doing random acts of kindness always gives me a good feeling as I expect it does everyone. I have a neighbour who lives alone and at least one a week we invite him to dinner. Recently a friend told me about a young man he knew who would be working in our area for a couple of weeks. He had no place to stay and couldn't afford a hotel. After talking it over with my wife we invited him to spend the two weeks with us as we had plenty of room. Now we have made a new friend and have good memories of his stay with us. Sometimes just listening to someone who needs to talk, perhaps after a bereavement, can be an act of kindness. Blessings
