My baby had a terrible night last night. At 5 months old he is really a good natured baby. Always a smile on his face. I knew something was wrong when he didn't smile. Next thing we knew he had a low grade fever. By morning, when we got to the dr. his temp was over 101! He has an ear infection. He will be on antibiotics for a week. It just happened over night. Ever been surprised how quickly you or your child gets sick?

Whenever my kids get sick it kind of lingers there for a little bit before they are actually really sick. I hope that the antibiotics kick in quickly and your son is back to his cheerful self again in no time.

I have been surprised many times by how fast a young child can get very sick. It's good that you took him right to the doctor and I hope he's feeling a little bit better by now. Poor thing. I remember when mine had ear infections and they were so miserable.

Aww. I am sorry to hear that.I know about ear infections my little sister got them at that age and still does..she is like a little fish and won't keep her head out of the water and poof in less then a week she ends up with ear infection again. So beware once the start getting them it might be something that just keeps coming back and back..I recently dealt with a ear infection myself and they can be painful. SO hope your little one gets better and that he will be ready for summer in the pool..

Yes! I was always surprised at how quickly my baby got sick without warning. One afternoon when she was about 18 months old, she was doing fine and we waved out the window to her Daddy as he pulled up into the driveway. She squinted hard and then started crying at the bright sunlight. When he got into the house, she cuddled up in his arms and didn't move. She was just sort of slumped over and I got really scared fast. I felt of her head and she had a high fever. I had just been holding her minutes before and she didn't feel warm at all. Turns out it was her side teeth that were coming in and she had a slight infection. It was just teething. It passed after the teeth came in. She was fine. But I was scared of course.

My daughter had 11 ear infections when she was 2. The doctor finally put tubes in her ears & that helped. One day she was fine and the next day she was sick. Children get sick all of the time...especially if they are in daycare. My daughter is always catching something. She is now three and has also caught mono, pink eye, rotovirus as well as the regular flu/cold. I think some children are prone to getting sick...especially if they are in a childcare setting.
