Do you think global warming will cause a global pandemic?

Nowadays we have more and more viruses appearing out of nowhere - bird flu, H1N1, etc. In my country, we have several outbreaks in few locations and most of the cases are caused by deadly viruses and they are not H1N1 related. Fortunately, the situation is still under control due to the medical science but I really do wonder, is global warming one of the causes? Will the global warming, which is caused by us, be the one which brings us down? After all, viruses tend to be more active in higher temperature. No? What do you think?

hi ,friend. I think so ,very possible.Global warming is just one of the causes that cause the viruses .there are many things that our human being did ruined the environment, and finally caused serious problem. We all should do what we can to protect the earth, just for ourselves.

We should protect the earth because it is our duty to do so, not just to protect ourselves. :)

I don't think so. But global warming is one of the factors, not the main factor. I think we human can have these viruses under control.

It is definitely not the main factor. But I believe the pollution and the global warming or green house effect do have a role to play.

i do believe that the global warming is capable of causing a pworld pandemic and the visibility of this occurence are getting real every day, i was watching the news last night and i watched as cape town south africa is under the siege of serious flooding and about to wipe out a local community, the waters are rising fast and this is as a result of global warming, so it is very much possible

It's quite sad that these things are happening in our lifetime. I do hope things will be better in the future.

Not at all, dear at high temperatures viruses tend to die let me correct you and this to inform all mylotters the more the temperature the less the virus!

Well, we're not talking about high temperatures like 100 degree Celcius. We're talking about 30-50 degree which can be the optimum temperature for viruses. If it's 100, all of us going to die with the viruses. :)

I don't think global warming is a cause... or I should say everything constitute in part to this. It is just natural. Think about it, 100 years ago, we don't have global warming issues and yet there are different outbreaks of viruses such as smallpox. This is just a natural thing that virus keeps mutating from time to time. Most of the time they turn into less harmful thing as our body is quite good in combating against bacteria and virus through the training from out ancestors. But then, there are cases where they mutate into something fatal (which occurs at really low possibility) and therefore we see that there are new viruses outbreak from time to time. Global warming? Maybe but I will say it is the nature causing all these.

You do have a point. But I don't think our body is getting stronger against such viruses. Viruses tend to evolve over time and some viruses which used to be harmless, can actually become harmful as time goes by. Also, I think the internet and the coverage of our journalists are making these news about viruses more widely spread than before. Maybe we already have tonnes of viruses in the past, but nobody knows about them.

I do think that Global Warming is capable of causing a pandemic and other dangerous health issues for humankind. At the same time, though, I feel like many times the media blows things out of proportion. Any kind of publicity surrounding a disease outbreak is a real money maker for the media and the pharmaceutical companies. So, I think that we also have to think about whether or not there are shady motives behind the fear-mongering.

I do believe the media is making small things bigger, just to gain more attention. But in a way, this can be a good thing. It's always better to kick the governments and make them aware of all these things. Better do some precautionary measures before it's too late, like what happened in the past. Don't you think so?

I am more concerned with the toxic chemicals that are being allowed into our air and our water than I am with global warming. They are the most immediate destructive health hazards, and it is at a greater level than having the average temperature rise a few degrees every decade or two. Get the rocket fuel and the mercury out of our water first, and stop the contaminants out of our landfills, and fine the criminals who put the chemicals there. Then I will worry about the few inches of glaciers disappearing from our polar regions.

Toxic chemicals play a part in the global warming. :) Toxic chemicals add on to the pollution on our planet and that has make our temperature rising, and our ozone layer thinner. Thus resulting in this global warming. All of them are related.

Yeah i think so. It's beyond our control and it would really be catastrophic. It's beyonf political or anything or anyone with authority. When global warming will come to it's worst, then i guess all we have to do is to survive which i don't know how. I think it's best if we'll act on it right now. I heard global warming is permanent. I still hope the atmosphere can still hold it even just on our lifetime.
• Malaysia

Global warming is permanent unless we have advanced technology that can seal up the ozone layer or in other words, repair the ozone. :)

One person can only do so much. The important thing to do is to spread the awareness to people we know :)

Yeas, humanbeings should retrospect themselves for now. What they have brough to this wondful world,of course,it is still wonderful now.The enviroment problem is one of those that should be taken care of.However,we could find goverment at all levels have been aware of this. The globe warming prograss faster than everbefore. It is really a big threat to those countries, especiall the coastal ones.Maybe some of them will perished from the earth. As for the temprature and virus,i've some different views.Actually, every virus has his own proper habitat. Some time they will be killed and hard to spread if the temprature a little higher. So,these two could not be linked.Do you think so?my friend?

Viruses and bacteria or germs for that matter, tend to be more active when the temperature is hot. When it is very cold like north or south pole, they tend to be inactive or not-so-active. This is proven by science. :) Maybe not all the viruses/germs/bacteria in the world, but most of them behave that way.

Strongly it has relation between global warming and global pandemic. Global warming causing our ozone layers diminishing. The impact is ultraviolet can beam to the earth's surface directly. It's horrible. I hope our world citizens will take fast action to stop global warming, not only discourse by discourse. It won't help without real action. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

I think the UN has to do something about this especially in developing and 3rd world countries where the mentality of the people can be quite different.

Yes, I think global warning is the main cause for all these diseases not only that the world is becoming a living hell because of our own deed. we have started it and only we can put a stop to these disasters. The sea level is rising, the heat is rising , iceberg melting, new outbreak of diseases, oceans polluted, deforrestion ,loss in flora and fuana , extinction of animals and birds everything is happening because of our greediness. So lets wake up and do something or the other to stop these unwanted happenings before it is too late

Use less plastic, less water. These 2 are very simple things which can do a great deal for our planet.
