Each is different. I was on Lexapro for about 2 years. It worked for me, but didn't for another I know that was taking it. Everybody is different.

I'm taking Lexapro, as of three weeks ago and I feel a lot better. I was more anxious than depressed, but had some issues with both. I feel more normal now, not so weepy and my heart isn't racing all the time. I think I'm nicer now too! lol A few years ago I took Paxil CR and didn't like the way it left me feeling tired. I think it made me gain weight too.

Antidepressants - variety of pills
As almost everyone has stated above, anti-depressants work pretty much on an individual basis. What works for one person may or may not work for another. I have taken a wide range of them: prozac, effexor, celexa, paxil, lexapro, to name a few of the most poplular ones that are used. Personally the only one that really worked well for me was lexapro. My problem is that after about 9 months to a year, my body chemistry builds up a tolerance to the medication, causing it not to work as it should, and sometimes not to work at all. If your doctor prescribes an anti-depressant for you make sure to read all the literature that comes with it about the side effects and possible side effects. If you find any of these happening to you call your doctor right away. Also, if you find you are more depressed taking the medication, seek medical attention. I had a very very bad reaction to effexor, as did my sister. I hope I helped in some little way. Hoping your feeling better.

Everyone is different and reacts differently. For me Lexapro has been the answer. Prozac also worked well, but Lexapro is better. I also tried Effexor and it was awful for me. Wellbutrin didn't help me at all. I am currently in the process of switching to Cymbalta to see if that will help my anxiety better, but the verdict is still out on that one for me.

Each individuals body chemistry works different for each medication. So that plays a factors. For my the best turned out to be sunlight. For my depression is SAD Seasonal Effectiveness disorder. Before that though. Paxil worked extremely well... Only issue I had with Paxil is is made me gain alot of weight, and sleep more, and I had very bad tremor from it which never has gone away.....a mishap happened with Paxil.. So I was changed to Zoloft. Zoloft again made me more tired, and I did not like sleeping 16 hrs a days... But it helped me function better and calmer, and was I believe for me to be the best out of the prescriptions meds. There are times, if I had the money and health insurance I would willingly go back on Zoloft.... Another good thing that worked for me, and has worked wonders for many with mild depression is "St. Johns Wort" and "St. Johns Plant" .... NEVER Start this or any other herbal supplement without your doctors guidance. I mad that mistake when I was on Zoloft so it increased the effect of it... and that was not goo. Cause then they had to increase the Zoloft dosage for awhile, when I discontinued St. Johns Wort.. .. Later.. We gave it a try to take me off Zoloft, and see how I did on St. Johns Wort. So then I was shown how to change the dosage and go on and off that on me own.... A Good place to do research on antidepressents is http://www.rxlist.com Otherwise usually you take and name and type it in. http://www.paxil.com http://www.zoloft.com So for me those were the best over time I noticed and improvement I went from severely depressed to mild to none.. I still have bouts of depression from situations... Which just give me someone to talk to and I am fine :) .

I find that effexor works well for me. All the other ones I tried didnt help me, just made me worse. I am so glad that they put me onto effexor, because I have been a lot better on it. I still get really bad days, but nothing compared to what it was like before.
