do you think dogs are capable of love?

i know the answer seems obvious, but there was an article with quotes from a semi famous dog expert Jon Katz that was in the LA times. he said dogs are like social parasites and they have evolved into being able to fool us into thinking they love us. it made me a little sad because i love my dog so much and he is so loving to me(may be it's a different sort of love but still love). what are your thoughts?

My dogs love me and I love them, by any reasonable definition of love

YES! Of course like other respondents have hinted there are different kinds of love. What maybe being hinted at, is that humans can love altruistically. Well I believe that we humans do everything for a reason, even when we're in love, even if it is only to make us feel better. In our house, we have two dogs who can get very amorous with each other: one a male Jack Russell, the other a mahogany coloured/ patterned lurcher female. Even though Scampy the Jack Russell is really small in comparison to Tilley, at times he has got so amorous, he tries to make love
to Tilley and starts mounting one of her legs. It can be quite funny to watch! Most of the time they can be quite lovey, dovey with each other!Another thought: dog is God spelt backwards - they really can bring so much affection into our lives.
Lastly, I have heard the theory that companion animal dogs think we are their pack leaders, which makes sense, as they seem to be very much pack animals...

I am PET DOG OWNER, AND IF I THINK IN THIS QUESTION...I CAN ANSWER THAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF LOVE....is not true, they have great instincts, and they are very attached from his master. A dog all time will be "i love" with who give food of him.
Only human feel love, i mean , this feeling is for humans only..this is my opinion.

personally i feel that dogs are not capable to love but they surely can feel affection..... so in other words they can love u but ya its a different sort of love.
but still whatever it is we can still love dogs as we know they not gonna hurt us like people......
