It really depends on what kind style you are going to play. If you are learning rhythm, you would begin learning chords and how to read chord charts. If you are going to play lead you would learn notes. Either way there is some basic music theory and basics about the guitar itself that you would start with. (frets, cappo, picks, keys etc) It's also different for a bass guitar. They each serve a different purpose in the music composition.

you're right. but I think even if you're going to play lead, you still have to learn the chords first before the notes though. since that will make your learning a lot easier because coming up with lead parts in a song will depend on the song's chords, like, I come up with riffs and adlibs from a song's chord progression, pulling the notes out of the scales and the power chords. so if you're starting to play the guitar, you'd wanna go rhythm first, and learn the basic chords, how to strum, switch chords while playing, and of course, how to hold the guitar properly.

Oh, absolutely!! I feel like a good bit of theory is good for any musician as well. I know it can seem somewhat overwhelming and tedious at times, but it helps all the pieces come together in the long run!

Hi there, If you want to learn fast , look for easy songs , and find their tabulations, and just learn it as fast as you can and practice a lot , if you are done with easy songs and you can move your fingers fine, move to harder ones, but those one who are not fast , the speed you will learn it by time , the first thing to focus is just to find how to move your fingers easily on the guitar ..... right... here are the steps to follow in my opinion : 1. Know how to hold a guitar and how sit holding it (depend on your playing style. 2. Get a program (guitar pro / power chord) to play tabulations and learn how does it work. 3. Get easy songs and start playing and always practicing. 4. Learn harder songs ( you can try to find how does we call some notes, and learn things about keys along). 5.practice and work on you speed. Hope that helps , it's just my own experience ...

Probably the basic Chords, where to put your hands, Fingering because if you just play how you feel comfortable at the beginning you will get into bad habits which will be hard to break.

You should learn the parts of the guitar first and next is the terms used in playing guitar so that when you will be learning how to read a guitar chord, you can understand it and read it well. The basics are the chords first you need to know how to position your fingers in the Frets and how to do strumming. The easiest chords ever; A, D, E, C etc. just look for an online chord chart and you'll know. Practice the flexibility of your fingers on the guitar, at the first time you'll be handling it your fingers will get tired i think? So you should familiarize and practice the grip on guitar so that you'll learn easily.

In taking guitar lessons, your instructor would primarily teach you some chords and also some scales like the pentatonic scales. It does not matter really what you learn first, the chords, scales, or notes, because everything will fit into a single principle when you learned those but I think knowing the chords and playing some scales is the most basic. And also, singing while playing the guitar improves your skills also. :)
