I got a call last night from my best friend Sheena, her mother is mentally retarded and she is having a tough time handling it. She seems very depressed about it.
During night her mom opens the door and runs aways. So, she has to be awake all night. She called me in for a short time leaving her mom locked up in the bathroom.
Have you ever handled mentally retarded people?

I have never been in charge of a mentally-retarded person. I am pretty sure I would be unable to cope.

There are different types of mental problems. It is not difficult to handle all having mental problems. Some people will be alright most of the time and on a sudden they start showing the behaviors of a mentally retarded person. A lot of mental problems can be cured by medicine.

Yes, I admire the people who take care the mentaly retarded people. My sincere hats off to them. They are some of the best souls to have born in this earth and god bless them all. Although I have never been with a mentally retarded person but I could see many Mentally retarded cases in my office. They are absolute mads and even a mentally affected person would not be behaving in the way as some of the people in my office behave. Crazy people:) and god knows how they come to such a position and how they are still staying in the job. Oops! I seem to deviate from the topic. I wish that God blesses the people who takes care of mentally retarded person with full of care and affection. GOD save people.

Do you mean some of your colleagues behave worse than a mentally retarded person?
This happens in almost all the offices, forming groups, being selfish, mean, try to grab others opportunities, try to show that others are not working properly, and attack others mentally. Everybody wants power.

Hi friend,
It is really a sad news hearing from you.I know there are some people who are like that, but in real i haven't seen them. You friend Sheena is really having tough times with her mother. Now a days depression is causing a big headache to individuals.I hope her mother will come out of the depression state and be like a normal human being in coming days.Try to advise her in coping up her mother in a better way as a friend. So that she may feel better and try to think about the solution in a better way

I think your friend should hire a caretaker to look after her mother.
Are you sure that her mother is "metally retarded" or "metally ill" because there is a lot of differnce between the two. People who have a retarded growth mentally are called metally challenges (i prefer calling such special people that way) and people who have lost control over their mind or have a mental disease are termed "mentally ill".
I have a mentally challenged sister and she used to attend special schools. Now that she is grown up we dont have institutions that train and provide schooling for such special people.
My parents and I have tough times handling my sister once in a while, but we take turns to look after her; so it reduces our caretaking burden equally :)
