Do you have any compensation if the plane is delayed?

Finally we were back home this afternoon. In fact we should go home last night, but due to a technical problem of the plane, our schedule was changed. The airlines arranged us the hotel and a good meal at night. We had to wait until this morning so that we could have a plane to go home. Because of that, the airlines gave each passenger the compensation and I had to say it's fine because we almost didn't have to pay for our ticket since there was the compensation. At first I was so unhappy because of this long time delay, but now it's OK

Hi Youless, The most important thing is you fly home safely! It seems you have a pretty good deal on the flight. Who do you flight with? China Southern airline or eastern airline? Now a days, as competition between all the airline become more and more sharply. Every one will have to keep their customer happy, right?

The airlines is called Shanghai Airlines. I don't really know what happened last night for this plane. Perhaps it's a big news and I have to find it later

Hi youless, I have tried that once and I was very disappointed that time since I have no company and I don't know anyone in the place.....but, in the end, I was able to enjoy the accomodation and the food given by the airline because of such delay!

For my last trip I took my toddler son to South Africa. We arrived at the airport called London Heathrow and checked in fine. Then once through security I looked at the departures board. I noticed our flight to Cape Town was delayed. I went to a help desk to ask why our plane was delayed. I was told that the fog had meant that when coming in it had landed at Manchester. All the passengers were coming to London Heathrow by coach. The situation was better so the plane could come back to London Heathrow and be cleaned. I was given a £5 meal voucher and a telephone card. The plane was meant to leave at 19.35 but it didn't go until almost 01.00. Unfortunately at 22.00 the shops all closed and the airport was like a ghost town. My toddler son went to sleep and then cleaners began to hover the floor. We arrived in Cape Town after our 12 hour flight. We had to wait one hour to be collected at the airport. One time I bought a day trip ferry ticket from Wales to Ireland. The Irish Sea was so rough that I was sea sick. Most other people were too. I arrived to find out all sailings were canceled until further notice. So I had to stay one night in Dublin. I got a £10 duty free voucher for that heavy delay due to high waves.

You really had to wait for a long time in the airport. It is a very long delay. Fortunately it seemed it didn't spoil your mood to travel in South Africa.

I think it's okay, myself, and it was nice of the airport to offer youall this compensation. It was good that youall didn't have to pay for your ticket. These things happen and they can't be helped. I bet youall were tired and anxious to get home, weren't you? When we went to Europe in 1973, we flew from Bangor, Maine to Brussels, Belgium. We were supposed to fly from Brussels to London, England and have a free day in London. Well, it didn't work out that way. We had a six hour delay in Brussels because there was a mix up in the flights. They thought they were supposed to go to Madrid, Spain, which was where they were headed, and then found out they were supposed to go to Brussels. You can imagine how tired we all were because none of us slept a wink the night before. It was an overnight flight from Maine to Brussels.Kathy.

Did your airlines gave you any kinds of compensation? I hope they did. Otherwise the customers would be in troubles

No, they didn't. We flew overnight from Bangor, Maine to Brussels, which means that we got to Brussels the next morning. We just waited for six hours at the airport until our plane to London got there. We had to pay for our own meals at the airport. Kathy.

I was delayed once coming home from Germany. We were given food vouchers which allowed us to get something to eat. It wasnt worth it though! We spent 6 extra hours in the airport. The whole time we were running around trying to get everything straightened out! The airlines really screwed up, and it seemed no one was able to help us! We barely even had time to get food with the vouchers because of how long it took us to get through everything! Then we had to have another layover to get home rather than a direct flight. We got home about 12 hours later than we were supposed to. It was terrible! I hope that never happens again! Im glad your delay worked out for you!

This time I can understand how frustrated it could be when the airplane was delayed. And sometimes even the airlines can't give you a clear answer and this is very annoying. But at least it provided a compensation and it's alright now.

I have never had a problem because of a delayed flight, but my husband missed a connecting flight once, because of it. The airline put him up in a hotel fir the night, and paid for it, so he had no problems, excelt that his friend who was supposed to meet him at the airport didn't get to meet him that night.

The last time i experienced this sort of thing... the only compensation i got was a dinner which comprised of cheeseburger, fries, and a small coke... well, i can fully understand since the airline is just a budget airline and the fare is not that expensive... i am just glad that we were able to take off the same day... so we did not spend a long time in the airport...
