I Quit Offering Reciprocal Linking on my Blogs

You may know that it's important to get backlinks to your pages if you want Google to give you any Pagerank but did you know that it's only special links that are accepted by Google. My experience has shown me that even though I have spent a lot of hours getting links back to my pages Google doesn't give me credit for the huge majority because they are reciprocal links. Reciprocal linking basically means 'you scratch my back and I will scratch yours'. Google prefers links that just go one way. They link only one way, not both ways. An example: I use a few tools for getting reciprocal links and over the years I have accumulated 3,245 backlinks to one of my garden sites. That sounds awesome doesn't it and I bet you wish you could do that. :) Well it was quite an accomplishment for me and I have done this for a few of my sites. The only thing is that Google looks at them and decides about relevant links and reciprocal links along with one way links and out of those 3,245 backlinks Google gives me just 73 of them. Yup you read it correctly, so that was a lot of work for only a fraction of the links. Now I don't do any reciprocal linking unless I can link to them from one of my others sites so that we aren't linked together. Google seems to accept these three way links so I still do those but for the most part I just do one way links now. What do you do to get links to your pages?
