the problem seems to be the same no matter what. Each of these systems of economics even when backed by a democracy will break down and fall when they are controlled in the wrong way. When one person or a group of individuals begins exploiting the masses for their own personal gain it breaks down the foundations of each of these systems. Such as a president, dictator, or quorum that begins controlling the majority of the resources or the majority of the finances without proper representation for the people. Let's take the U.S. right now and our problems with big business. I am sure that everyone is aware of whats going on and who caused it so I won't bother naming names and I will just be general. There have been several instances of CEOs and corporate presidents that have given themselves incredible salary increases or massive several million dollar bonuses and then laid off huge amounts of workers. This sink or swim attitude takes advantage of everyone at the bottom and creates an unfair structure for everyone. It's just the same as a dictator of a communist republic taking an entire countries resources and allocating them to only their friends and themselves while leaving their people out hungry and in the cold. I think it's high time that we take a page from the books of social revolution that has overthrown oppressive dictators. As the consumer body and the entire foundation of our economic system, we have the power in the United States to really make a difference. We need to start educating ourselves on the real costs and force these companies to create a fair trade system. I am not against outsourcing our manufacturing to other companies as long as there is a fair wage compensation for the people. Free trade is nothing more than a system of exploitation. U.S. car companies slowing the progression of technology and efficient systems because of their ties to the petroleum industry is another system of exploitation. I have made my own gasoline and my own diesel before. It's really just not hard at all. In fact making both of these from renewable and sustainable resources not only uses the same facilities with almost no changes to the current production systems but it could also help create massive job opportunities for our dwindling agricultural communities. The only thing holding us back is some super greedy fat cats that control too many tied industries at once. When buddies control major fuel companies and another controls plastics and yet another one of their friends controls autos we have a fellowship of greed that creates an invisible monopoly that has the ability to suppress newer technologies and alternative markets. None of these people are breaking any laws, they are just all agreeing with each and taking care of each others competitions. This is not fair trade, this is just plain exploitation. with a minimal amount of research, using something as simple as google, anyone can dig up dirt on this. I've said my 2 cents and now it's up to you. I have found my conclusions and I'm fed up with what's happening to us all. Now go out and find your own. If you don't agree with my ideas, that is o.k. because it's opinion to me. Just think to yourself about the guy running the company you work for and get paid only 10 dollars an hour at. Just think about how important you really are. Without you running things and doing all of the labor, that company would fall. Now consider that the person running it probably makes hundreds times what you do and vacations for a month or two a year and spoils themselves with their hundreds of thousands to millions a year that they make. You aren't important to them, you're just a number. Maybe they could improve employee productivity and instead of taking a 5 million dollar raise next year on top of the millions they make, they could spread it out and give you and everyone else a 2 dollar an hour raise. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. thanks for your time.

"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you really want to test a man's character, give him power" (slight paraphrase of Abraham Lincoln) The problem, as your title suggests, is human nature, not the system in place. Technically, however, capitalism ENCOURAGES the behavior of which you write, while a PERFECT communal system would curtail the problem. Of course, human nature being what it is, we have never seen a PERFECT communism, and likely never will. The current "recession" has entirely been caused by people who have been making too much money for too long, starting to panic about sustaining their lifestyles and making stupid decisions. Then it falls to people with thick skins and strong nerves to clean up the problem with the eyre of nearly everyone upon them, AND with any possible lessons that could have been learned disappearing behind the scalding disappointment in "Government" as a whole. No win situation. Mankind ends with neither a wimper or a bang, but with a "gimme, gimme!"
