A lawmaker is passing a bill that mandates all legislative documents to be made public on the internet for public scrutiny. See: http://is.gd/Cb6x for a more detailed story What do you think of this? Do you think this will help us in any way? I honestly believe this is a baby step towards good governance and that we should be making such changes especially in these awful times when the citizens no longer trust their own government.

Well if it gets in its a step to stopping corruption. If youve read anything to do with the UK in the last 2 weeks there has been a document that got to the press that showed politicians expenses for the last 4 years. Its already forced some people out of power aswell as people are now calling for a general election as it seems every MP in British Parliment is corrupt and at least stealing on expenses if not in other things they get upto. I think politicans should be forced to be transparent not only in documents but also where they accumulate wealth as there is so many bribes and biast land deals done all illegally and out of the view of the public. These things arent popular with politicians and the only people that can make it happen are the people themselves.

Well, it is about time that they do that... they should have started doing that around 10 years ago... but since most of our law makers are old and not that tech savvy... only a few who embraced the importance of the internet thought of this idea... but most are too conservative to accept... and now that there is a bill... for sure some will object... but i hope it will soon be passed into law...

But you'll be surprised, if you follow the link it says (actually *I* said) that most of the bills are already available. And they're just making a mandate out of it - it is still a change but I think that because there are so many few people who actually knew that bills were available online that this news was a little bit over glorified :)

I am not from the Philippines and I can understand how it would be a good thing to have the legislative bills published online. It gives the people more of a chance to know what is going on. I feel that all governments should be doing this, like one of your responses said, to help curve the corruptness of government if nothing else. There is alot of that in the US, at state levels as well as federal, its sad when the people do not know how they can truly trust if their best interest is not what is on the agenda but what is in the best interest in who is running the government. To much corrupt people in government that cause so much trouble for the people, we need away to bring it back so faith can be restored in the governments in each country. Tall order I know.

I do believe that this is inching towards a very good direction - at the very least, it would give the people a view of how productive their elected senators are. If they're not making laws as they should be, then they're not worth our taxes and should not be voted for again in the future. We have a long way to go still, but this is a good start.

Hmm... legislative should be made public anyway. There are sites that take care of that. I think its the transactions of the government that should be posted on the internet. Contracts, bids, etc.
