Are You A Godparent?

Were you ever asked by friends or relatives to become a godmother or a godfather to their kids? Are you fulfilling your duties as a Godparent? I have numerous godchildren and I have not been a really good godmother to most of them because I don't see them often - out of sight, out of mind. The only time I'd see them is when they invite for Christmas or their birthdays. That's sad, huh?

i have lots of Godchildren, most of them are living far away because i was a Godparent way back in college, and then now im in our hometown, far from my school in college. i haven't seen them for so long now so i even forgot their birthday.

I have two godchildrens, I think... I am perfectly aware of two. I know that we often feel like they're only after the money because they only show up during Christmas/birthdays but if we think about it... when else do we expect to see them? Godchildrens wouldn't randomly ask us to come over for cake and ice cream - we're not their friends! We're adults compared to them :P I figured this one out when I thought about how often I saw my godfathers (especially those who seldom gave me anything for Christimas LOL). Now I'm trying to keep the number of my grandchildren small so I can give THEM the attention THEY need. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

As a Godparent, I seriously want to go beyond the gifts and money phase. I want to have a better relationship with my Godchildren and be a second parent to them.

I have few godchildren and like you, I don't think I have been a good godmother! Although I used to play with them back home and watched them over when their parents ask me. I am not in our country at the moment and haven't seen them for about 3 years now.

You're lucky that you even got to play with them. I absolute have not had any bonding moments with them. I see them on their birthdays and I have to share them with the rest of visitors. Maybe I should make that as a New Year's resolution next year or something.

Yes, I am a godmather to several kids. And most of them are far from me so I get to see them only too during birthdays or Christmas or when I come visiting but not too often or when they come to visit too. There is one my first godchild who I have seen when he was still a baby and we just text each other and sometimes I send him gifts through someone once in a blue moon because they moved to another place. In have 2 godchildren who are girls and 5 boys. 3 of these boys are sons of cousins and the 1 girl is the daughter of a cousin too. others are children of friends or co-workers of long ttime ago.

At least you get to stay in touch with them. I absolutely have no contact with my godchildren. Yikes.
