Recently my hot water tank sprung a leak. Anyhow I had called a plumber and nearly spent close to $900 to get a new one installed. My son-in-law ended up doing it for me and it cost me a total of under $400 buying it at Home Depot. This is a shot of it installed and working. Wegave him $40 for his time etc. But, we forgot to buy the shut off valve to install. That will be done soon I hope by him. What has been the latest new appliance you boughht? What reason did you need a new one? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

OH my goodness, close to 900.00??? That is horrible, thank goodness for your son in law. We rent our house so when we have to purchase things we get to take it off of the rent and I think the last was the hot water heater. Dang, wish I had known then what I do now about the labor costs behind it all and would have tacked on more to the bill. hahahaha To be honest I don't think we even charged for labor for my husband and son installing it.

That is crazy isn't it? They said a tank was $700 plus the extras etc brought their price to $900. Home depot had them from $340 up to $1,000. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Thank heaven for stores like Home Depot, and really sweet people like your son in law! Hubby and I are hopefully going to be getting a house in the fall just before baby comes! I really hope we don't have anything "fall apart" on us! Right now I can call the landlord, but once we own a house we're the landlord!

What a great SIL you have! You know, we used to expect that sort of behavior and now we're just pleased as punch when we hear about it! I don't know what my appliance purchase will be. If my dryer goes out, I'm not replacing it. I'll replace the washer but it seems to be going strong. It might be the water heater but it's less than ten years old, as is the roof and the heating/cooling system. I have a head start on stuff! I'm still socking away money for those events. I wish I had a handyman in my social circle!

That's awesome he really saved you a whole lot! About 5 years ago my mothers water heater broke as well, she was unemployed and waiting to get approved for social security and had no income. My income was too low at the time as well so we prayed and prayed about how we were going to fix her water heater. The next day she went to Safeway for a gallon of milk, loaf of bread and a few other things and she walked by the scratch ticket machine. She thought " Well I guess I could buy a $1 ticket who knows??? " Mom bought that ticket, came to my house right down the road from Safeway to visit. She sat there and scratched it and wouldn't you know she one $3,000!!!! We both cried and thanked God for answering our prayers.

I forgot to mention we did some calling around to find the cheapest place to fix the water heater, well the cheapest we found was $1,300. We didn't have anyone that could install it for us if we bought one elsewhere and since it had to deal with plumbing LOL I didn't dare try to do it myself.

Cool! Don't you love it when you know people who will save you money and not bilk you? Plus, he got something nice out of it. As for a new appliance...man, I don't know. I moved apartments and the fridge in it was new. Well, new to me. But I didn't buy it...I haven't bought a new appliance since the year 2000. It was a microwave. Still got it!

My central air broke and got a price to get a new one and my friend gave me a window one for free. But can't afford the light bill on it as well this year. So will have to work with the window and the wind. I hope it doesn't get to hot this year. I swell up in the heat and then I hurt. But I also need a new dryer mine is on it's last leg so to speak. I pray it will last until I get back to work. Your friend onlydia
