this is my first child and i am pretty sure she has started teething. what can i do to make it more comfortable for her she completely hates teething rings. how long can a kid be teething for before the tooth actually breaks through because she has been acting like she is teething for the past month and a tooth has not broken through.

how long she will be teething is hard to say as no two kids are the same I beleive someone already suggested orajel so I wont repeat them you could also let her chew on a wet washrag there is a trick that you can use that works like a charm for teething babies put a Tablespoon of sugar in the center of the washrag, pull the edges of the rag up around the sugar and rubberband then wet the sugar part the sweetness of the sugar will make her want to chew the consistancy of the wet sugar will excersize her jaws and the texture of the washrag will massage her sore gums this too shall pass just hang in there

It depends. Sometimes a tooth will start to cut, then it will recede again. It's super painful for the baby, but they all have to go through it. Try some oragel. My daughter used to get an ear infection with each new tooth. I am sooooo glad it's all over!

You can rub oragel on her gums or give her a small freezie (unopened) to suck on. Also, you can put wet face cloths in the freezer and let her suck on the frozen cloth. All of those helped my daughter.

she doesnt really like anything cold but i will try the orajel. she seems to be running a constant slight temp so i hope it ends soon because she gets so miserable and hot at night even after i give her tylenol. thanks for the help.

my first son had all the usual shop remedies like teething rings and gels, but his teeth came fast, however my second son who is 18 months old now is a nightmare, his front teeth came fast and cause he was small i used the gel, but he never seemed happy, so after my sister started doing dental nursing i asked her to get some tips from her dentist, they told me that a wet blankey frozen is good, but my son does not have a blankey, but i read up on teething and sucking actually brings more blood to the area and causes sensitivity, which in turn stops your baby from drinking/eating. i resorted to using things my little man could chew so he wasnt sucking, i freeze bread, bagels are good and in sticks they are easy for my son to hold and they dont get everywhere as they melt, fresh frozen fruit is good as they love the sweetness and it helps numb the gums so they are helpinhg the process as they chew without the pain, if your baby is small i think the best is letting her chew on your fingers when they have been under a cold tap. also try some natural remedies, like teething powder, i used this when he was small as it helped soothe him at bedtime and made bathing alot more enjoyable. my first son started teething at 2 months and he was all done by 2, however my second son is still struggling to get all his front ones through and he is 18 months, a trip to the dentist is a good idea as they can tell you which ones are on the way, at the moment he is getting his molers and i have resorted to him chewing on a toothbrush, sounds horrible but he loves it, and the dentist said it can do no harm. good luck.

I hate to say this but my oldest son teethed for over a year before his first tooth came in. I took him to the doctor, he recommended raw hide bones, he was chewing everything. It did help. The frozen popcicles did too. Good Luck. A cold wash cloth also helped with my other sons.

My third child went through the same thing. Her tooth would start to come through and then recede. Freezies seemed to help (although not totally frozen). A washcloth left in the fridge. A pacifier might help as it promotes saliva which for some reason seems to help with the whole teething process. My daughter is now 18 months old and is still going through the teething process so I have to think of more creative ways to alleviate the pain as her teeth can pierce through the freezie wrapping and a cloth doesn't hold as much appeal as it once did ;)
