What do you think about solicitors? Do you think it's an effect way to get sales OR in this case get "important info" out? Someone came to my door talking about clean energy and clean water, but after her 30 second speil I had no idea what she wanted from ME so I told her I was busy. She asked if she could come back because it's really important.
Well if it's important, come up with a better way to pass the info. AND get to the point right away, the first thing they should say is what they want from me not a whle spiel about where they are from and what they are all about.
I have a no solicitors sgn - it doesn't work, they still come to the door. The only people I'm willing to talk to our kids selling cookies or raising money for school/sports. Otherwise, please don't bother me at home!
I personally can't stand door-to-door anything (besides the kids as mentioned) b/c I feel like suddenly I lose privacy in my own home! I feel like they make me want to shut the door instead of getting fresh air in so they can't see me and bother me.
In the age of the internet, I just think going door-to-door is the WORST way to drum up business or support for a cause because when I see a person coming up to my door - I'm already annoyed before they even speak.

Yea I do not want the silly cookies either, I will tolerate children ringing my doorbell, but that is it. If you are an adult and trying to sell me something and you ring my doorbell I will go off on you. Never mind that we live in a gated community and have a no soliciting law in our community. (I also call the cops)
when my babies came home from the hospital I put a note on my door that said if you wake my babies you will be responsible for getting them back to sleep, so think twice about ringing that door bell. It seemed that every time they got to sleep some idiot selling something would ring out bell. At the time we were not in the same neighborhood as we are now it really pissed me off.
another thing that got me real mad was when the dumb butt that lived across the street allowed his children to shoot fireworks at my babies bedroom window, you know bottle rockets, which of course woke them up at midnight.
When that happened I walked out side and told them that I really did not care who did it but one of them would be coming in to get them back to sleep. I was livid. They knew that was were my babies slept, the parents had been over to the house, yet they let their children sit in the island (culdesac, center had an island, area of grass) and shoot fireworks in the direction of our house, Why not in the direction of their own freaking house.

Ha I don't want the cookies either, but for the neighborhood kids I figure what the heck. EVEN THOUGH I will never let my own kids do this door to door crap. Lucky you to have the gated community - that would be an extra deterent to keep them away.
My doorbell doesn't work ;) Haha so that's always funny b/c they can hit it all they want and I won't hear a thing. A lot of people have no common curtosy for their neighbors. They can't realize that their actions are disturbing others. And when neighbors do that kind of stuff KNOWING there is a baby in the house, that is just awful. I would wonder why they were allowed to shoot them off at night like that AT ALL. Hope you are around better neighbors now!

The only door to door salesmen that I get are Jahova Witnesses. I would gladly buy from school children as long as they have the product right there to give me. I have bought ahead of time and I never get the product. I agree about it being the worst way to get business but for me it is a safty issue. I am not going to open the door to a stranger, not would I go door to door for safty reasons.

I agree with the safety reasons too. In this case, it was a young woman so I wasn't really intimated, I was just annoyoed. But if there is a guy at the door, I always call my husband in the room. It's just irritating that you feel like you have to shut your door to keep them away.
I've had solicitors come late in the evening when it was dark too, that's the worst. And b/c I try not to be totally rude, I don't say what i'm thinking "GO AWAY!" I think i need to add neon blinking lights to my no solitors sign. I wish it was illegal
